Moniepoint Unveils New Savings Products, Launches ‘One Step Ahead’ Campaign With Funke Akindele

Moniepoint Microfinance Bank has rolled out an expanded range of savings products as it launches a new consumer campaign, “One Step Ahead,” featuring Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele.

The new savings portfolio is designed to give customers more flexibility in how they set aside and access their money, with options aimed at different income patterns and financial goals. Moniepoint said customers can begin saving with ₦1,000 on most of the products, while premium tiers may require higher starting amounts.

The move comes as Nigerians contend with unpredictable expenses and irregular income, factors that can make maintaining long-term savings difficult. Brandspur Brand News reports that Moniepoint’s customer survey found unexpected expenses disrupted 72.8 per cent of savings plans, while irregular income affected 51 per cent of savers surveyed.

Moniepoint’s revised offering includes Target Savings, which allows customers to make one withdrawal of up to 50 per cent without losing interest and offers returns of up to 11.5 per cent per annum. Flexible Savings permits as many as four withdrawals in a month without interest penalties, with a stated rate of 9.5 per cent per annum.

Its Fixed Deposit option offers interest upfront, with rates reaching 17.5 per cent per annum, while Save As You Transact allows customers to save as they spend and retain unrestricted access to their funds.

The bank said the products were developed to address common challenges faced by savers, particularly the need to balance disciplined saving with access to cash when unexpected financial demands arise.

Babatunde Olofin, Managing Director of Moniepoint Microfinance Bank, said the bank’s approach was centred on giving customers greater control over their savings while helping them build towards personal and business objectives.

Moniepoint currently serves more than 20 million customers across its personal and business banking segments. The bank said people who do not already use its services can access the savings products by downloading its mobile application, registering and completing the required Know Your Customer procedures.

The “One Step Ahead” campaign builds its storytelling around the idea that financial plans are often disrupted not by a lack of ambition, but by unforeseen events. Akindele features in the campaign through the world of her popular Jenifa’s Diary series, which has run for more than 20 seasons since its debut in 2015.

The choice of Akindele gives the campaign a strong connection to a character and entertainment franchise already familiar to Nigerian audiences. Beyond her acting career, she is also a filmmaker and producer and has become one of Nollywood’s most prominent commercial figures.

With the new products and campaign, Moniepoint is positioning savings not simply as a long-term financial discipline, but as a tool that can accommodate the realities of everyday Nigerian life while helping customers remain prepared for both planned and unexpected expenses.
