Nigerian Car Modifiers Turn Older Models Into Rolls-Royce, Maybach And Newer Luxury Cars

Nigerian car modifiers are drawing attention online with elaborate conversions that transform older and more affordable vehicles into cars styled after high-end Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Maybach and newer Toyota models.

A TikTok compilation featuring the work of local customisation outfits shows vehicles including a 2010 Toyota Venza, Mercedes-Benz W221 S-Class and Nissan Sentra being extensively redesigned with new bodywork, styling elements and upgraded interiors to create the appearance of much newer or significantly more expensive cars.

The trend highlights a growing interest in vehicle customisation as Nigerian motorists look for ways to achieve a luxury appearance without necessarily purchasing the latest model. Brandspur Brand News reports that the featured projects range from exterior body conversions to substantial interior upgrades, with the finished vehicles designed to closely mimic the styling of premium marques.

One of the most striking examples in the compilation is a Toyota Venza converted to resemble the Rolls-Royce Sweptail, an exceptionally rare bespoke Rolls-Royce. The modification changes the appearance of the original vehicle substantially, creating a luxury-inspired exterior while retaining the underlying Venza platform.

Another featured project involves a Mercedes-Benz W221 S-Class, produced between 2006 and 2013, which has been upgraded to give it the appearance of a much newer Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. The conversion includes changes to both the exterior and cabin, demonstrating how older luxury vehicles can be visually refreshed through extensive modification.

The compilation also features a Nissan Sentra being converted to resemble a 2020 Toyota Camry, with the exterior reshaped to imitate the newer sedan’s styling. The project illustrates that the conversion trend extends beyond luxury brands and includes ordinary vehicles being redesigned to resemble newer models.

Interior work forms an important part of the transformations. In the S-Class project, for example, the cabin was upgraded alongside the exterior to create a more contemporary Maybach-inspired environment, rather than relying solely on cosmetic changes to the body.

The appeal of such conversions lies partly in the difference between the cost of acquiring a newer luxury vehicle and modifying an older one. However, the final appearance can vary considerably depending on the quality and extent of the work, while modified body proportions may also create visible differences from the original design.

The TikTok video, posted under the account @kaybee6208, also carries references to @bebexglobalcompanyitd and other automotive customisation accounts. Its roughly 162-second compilation has brought renewed attention to the Nigerian car modification scene and the creativity involved in reimagining existing vehicles.

For motorists, these projects offer another route to personalising a vehicle, whether the goal is to modernise an older car, create a distinctive appearance or reproduce elements associated with more expensive models.

The growing visibility of such work on social media is also changing how automotive customisation is presented to Nigerian audiences. Instead of being confined to specialist workshops and word-of-mouth recommendations, elaborate conversions can now reach thousands of potential customers through short-form videos showcasing the transformation from the original vehicle to the finished build.
