Allawee, a Nigerian fintech that provides card-issuing and account services, will discontinue its business and personal account operations from December 1, 2026, following its acquisition by Paystack in 2025.
Customers have been informed that the closure will affect both their Allawee accounts and cards, bringing the fintech’s standalone services to an end as its technology is integrated into Paystack.
According to the Brandspur Banking News Desk, emails sent to Allawee customers said payments made to Allawee account numbers from December 1 would no longer go through. Customers were also informed that their Allawee cards would stop working, irrespective of the expiry dates printed on them.
The development means customers who still receive payments or conduct transactions through their Allawee accounts will need to make alternative arrangements before the December deadline. The company’s notice effectively gives users three months to move away from the affected services.
Allawee’s technology is now operating within Paystack following the acquisition, although details of the 2025 deal were not publicly announced at the time.
The shutdown comes as Paystack continues to expand beyond its traditional merchant payments business. In January 2026, the company announced the creation of The Stack Group, a new parent company bringing together businesses focused on merchant payments, consumer payments, banking and emerging technologies.
Paystack, which was acquired by Stripe in 2020, currently provides payment infrastructure to businesses across several African markets. Its services include card payments, bank transfers, USSD, POS and virtual accounts.
For Allawee customers, the immediate priority will be to ensure that outstanding transactions, recurring payments and other financial arrangements linked to their accounts are moved before December 1, when the affected account numbers and cards are expected to stop functioning.
