Amazon To Receive More Than 50 Mercedes-Benz Electric Trucks In Germany By End Of 2026

Amazon will deploy more than 50 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 battery-electric trucks on German roads by the end of 2026 as the company expands efforts to reduce emissions across its European transportation network.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has already handed over the first 27 vehicles to Amazon, marking the German rollout of the company’s largest-ever order of electric trucks. The vehicles will be used mainly on middle-mile routes connecting fulfilment centres with urban areas.

The development represents a significant expansion of heavy-duty electric transport in Germany, with both companies highlighting the role of battery-powered trucks in making long-distance freight operations more sustainable. Brandspur Brand News reports that the trucks are manufactured at Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ Wörth am Rhein plant in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Amazon and Mercedes-Benz Trucks signed an agreement in early 2025 covering more than 200 eActros 600 trucks. Most of the vehicles are being deployed in the United Kingdom, where deliveries began in late 2025, while Germany is now receiving more of the electric fleet.

The eActros 600 was developed specifically for demanding long-haul operations. It combines a battery capacity of 621 kilowatt hours with an in-house electric drive axle and can travel up to 500 kilometres without intermediate charging under specified test conditions.

Under the manufacturer’s most economical operating configuration, the truck can achieve an estimated range of up to 560 kilometres with a 40-tonne gross train weight. With suitable charging infrastructure, Mercedes-Benz Trucks says the vehicle can cover well over 1,000 kilometres in a day, using charging periods that coincide with mandatory driver breaks.

Amazon is also investing heavily in the infrastructure required to operate the electric trucks. The company is installing hundreds of heavy-duty vehicle chargers at its European locations, with charging from 10 per cent to 80 per cent taking around 70 minutes under specified conditions.

The company said it is investing more than €1 billion in the electrification and decarbonisation of its European transportation network, including more than €400 million for operations in Germany.

The eActros 600 uses three battery packs, each with a capacity of 207 kilowatt hours. The batteries use lithium iron phosphate technology, which Mercedes-Benz Trucks says offers a long service life and allows more than 95 per cent of installed capacity to be used.

The vehicle is designed for a gross combination mass of up to 44 tonnes and has a payload of around 22 tonnes with a standard semi-trailer in the European Union, although permitted payloads can vary according to national regulations.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks began series production of the eActros 600 at its Wörth plant at the end of 2024. Before entering series production, the truck underwent extensive real-world testing, including a 15,000-kilometre European testing tour through 22 countries.

The electric truck also completed a further winter testing tour covering about 6,500 kilometres through Northern Europe. It was subsequently named International Truck of the Year 2025 by the International Truck of the Year organisation.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has since expanded the eActros 600 range with additional configurations designed to meet different requirements for range, payload and comfort. Customers can choose between different cab options, battery configurations, wheelbases and axle arrangements.

A new eActros Lowliner variant is also being introduced for high-volume transport operations. The first versions are expected to become available to order in EU30 markets and additional markets from the third quarter of 2026, with series production scheduled to begin at Wörth in the second quarter of 2027.
