Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi has added a postgraduate qualification in football management to his professional career after graduating from the Professional Footballers’ Association Business School in the United Kingdom.
The 29 year old earned a diploma in Global Football Sports Directorship as part of the institution’s 2026 cohort, graduating on Monday. The qualification adds to his academic background, having previously obtained a degree in Business Management from Buckinghamshire New University in 2022.
Brandspur Brand News reports that the postgraduate programme is designed to prepare participants for the demands of sporting directorship, covering complex and technical areas of the football industry. It is coordinated by former Manchester City sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta and former Southampton FC vice president Les Reed.

Awoniyi’s latest qualification comes alongside a career that has kept him in English football for more than four years. He joined Nottingham Forest for a club record fee of £17.2 million at the time, establishing himself as part of the club’s forward options during his spell.
The striker moved to Coventry City last month in a deal reportedly worth £17 million, continuing his career in the English Premier League.
His start at Coventry has, however, proved difficult on the pitch. Awoniyi was sent off during the club’s 5-0 defeat to Brighton last weekend, adding a setback to his early period with his new side.
The PFA Business School describes the Global Football Sports Directorship course as a postgraduate diploma aimed at aspiring sporting directors, with a focus on preparing participants to handle the increasingly complex demands of the football business on an international scale.
Awoniyi’s progression from playing football to gaining formal training in sports directorship provides him with an academic qualification in an area closely connected to the administration and strategic management of the game.
