The Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN) will bring together corporate directors, chief executives, regulators and technology experts in Lagos on October 8, 2026, for discussions on how artificial intelligence is changing corporate governance and boardroom accountability.
The annual conference, themed “Artificial Intelligence (AI), Power & Accountability: The New Architecture of Corporate Governance”, will take place in Victoria Island, with participants also able to join virtually.
Brandspur Brand News reports that the event will examine the growing role of AI in business strategy and decision making, with particular attention on how boards can maintain effective oversight as organisations adopt increasingly sophisticated technologies.
The programme will address issues including AI related risks, responsible innovation, accountability, regulatory expectations and long term value creation. It will also consider the responsibilities of boards and senior executives when technology becomes increasingly involved in organisational decisions.
Dr Evans Woherem, Founder and Chairman of Digital Africa Global Consult Ltd, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address. Other speakers include Dr Rabiu Olowo, Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria; Omolola Oloworaran, Director General of the National Pension Commission; and Alwin Magimay, Global Head of AI at PA Consulting in the United Kingdom.
The conference panel will be moderated by Nkemdilim Uwaje Begho, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Future Software Resources Ltd. Panellists include Karl Olutokun Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria and Vice President, Francophone Africa, MTN Group; Haruna Jalo Waziri, Founder and CEO of ISTAR Capital Nigeria Limited; Christopher Ogirri, Associate Director, AI and Data Engineering Lead and Chief AI Officer at PwC Nigeria; and Amaka Ibeji, AI Governance Expert and Founder of PALS Hub.
The discussion is expected to draw perspectives from telecommunications, financial services, professional services, technology and digital trust, while examining how organisations can balance technology driven innovation with effective oversight.
SCGN will also hold a Legal Pre Conference on October 6, 2026, ahead of the main event. The session, themed “Directors in the Age of Algorithms: AI Governance, Legal Accountability and the Board’s Duty of Care”, will focus specifically on the legal responsibilities of directors as businesses introduce AI into their operations.
The pre conference is being organised in partnership with KENNA and Banwo & Ighodalo and will examine directors’ duties, legal accountability, AI related risks and the governance implications of algorithmic decision making.
SCGN Chief Executive Officer, Chioma Mordi, said the conference reflects the organisation’s effort to keep corporate governance discussions aligned with changing realities in business and leadership.
