Glovo Nigeria MD Lamide Akinola Steps Down After Three Years

Glovo Nigeria’s Managing Director, Lamide Akinola, has stepped down from the position after three years, ending a tenure during which the delivery platform significantly expanded its operations across the country.

Akinola joined Glovo in 2021 as Head of Q-commerce for Sub-Saharan Africa, overseeing the expansion of its grocery and retail operations before becoming country head on July 1, 2023.

In a statement shared on LinkedIn, Akinola described the period as one of the most rewarding chapters of her career, highlighting the growth of Glovo Nigeria into an $80 million operation and the company’s fastest-growing market globally.

Brandspur Brand News reports that her tenure saw Glovo deepen its presence in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt while expanding beyond restaurant deliveries into groceries, pharmaceuticals and other retail services.

The company recorded 76 per cent year-on-year growth in gross merchandise value during the period, while Glovo said riders on its platform increased their average monthly earnings to between two and three times the national minimum wage.

Glovo has invested more than N54 billion in Nigeria since entering the market in 2021, including N8.5 billion in 2025 alone. The company also says it has facilitated more than 40 million deliveries across the country.

Akinola’s departure comes as Glovo continues to operate in an environment shaped by inflation, currency volatility and logistics challenges. The company has maintained its investment in the Nigerian market while supporting businesses through initiatives including Glovo Academy, which provides training for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Former Head of Growth, Reni Onafeko, has taken over as managing director, having filled the position since February 2026.
