Nestlé Partners NBA in 21 Markets, Bringing Global Basketball Campaign to Nigeria in 2027

Nestlé has signed a multi-year international marketing partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA), bringing its Milo, Nescau and Nesquik brands into an expanded global basketball campaign that includes Nigeria and 20 other markets.

The agreement, which takes effect on 1 January 2027, will combine brand promotions with youth development programmes and fan engagement activities. It is designed to encourage greater participation in basketball while giving Nestlé access to the NBA’s international audience.

For Nigeria, the partnership builds on Milo’s longstanding involvement in grassroots basketball. Brandspur Brand News reports that the collaboration could extend the reach of existing youth-focused initiatives by connecting local programmes to the NBA’s international platforms, although specific Nigerian activation plans have not been detailed.

A key part of the agreement will involve selected youth development initiatives, including Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA programmes, NBA Basketball School, coaches’ academies, Her Time To Play and NBA 3X. The brands will also feature across selected NBA events and fan engagement platforms, including NBA Global Games and NBA House.

The partnership will extend beyond basketball development into retail promotions and consumer experiences. Activities are expected to include product packaging featuring NBA branding, alongside opportunities for consumers to win tickets, merchandise and other prizes.

Nestlé said the collaboration reflects a broader marketing strategy centred on fewer, larger international partnerships that can be adapted to individual markets. The company described the deal as its largest international brand collaboration to date.

In Nigeria, the agreement arrives as the Milo Basketball Championship continues to provide a platform for young players. The competition reached more than 13,000 schools across the country in 2026 and is now in its 26th edition, offering participants opportunities to compete while developing skills associated with teamwork, discipline and resilience.

Wassim Elhusseini, managing director and chief executive officer of Nestlé Nigeria, said the NBA partnership would build on Milo’s established connection with basketball and create further opportunities to engage young people. The company expects the global platform to help inspire more children and families to take part in the sport.

Nestlé’s wider marketing portfolio includes Nescau and Nesquik, which will also become official NBA partners under the agreement. The collaboration is intended to connect the brands with basketball fans across different regions through local campaigns, retail activities and youth-focused programmes.

The 21-market partnership spans Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Ghana, Italy, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam. The Philippines is scheduled to join in October 2027.

For Nigerian consumers and aspiring players, the practical impact will depend on how the partnership is implemented locally. While the agreement establishes a broader international platform for Milo, the details of future Nigerian promotions and activities have yet to be announced.
