AXA Mansard Links Insurance Uptake To Business Growth, Household Financial Security

AXA Mansard Insurance Plc is seeking to make insurance a more familiar part of financial planning for Nigerian households and businesses through a new campaign that presents protection as a foundation for economic stability and growth.

The company’s pan-African Culture of Care campaign aims to change how Nigerians perceive insurance, moving the conversation beyond compensation after losses to its role in protecting livelihoods, supporting business continuity and encouraging long-term financial planning.

Speaking at the campaign launch, AXA Mansard’s Chief Executive Officer, Kunle Ahmed, said wider access to insurance could help close Nigeria’s protection gap and strengthen economic confidence.

According to Brandspur Brand News, the initiative builds on the idea that insurance can translate the care people already show their families, employees and communities into practical financial protection.

“Every day, Nigerians demonstrate a culture of care through the sacrifices they make for their families, employees, customers, and communities. Insurance is an extension of that care because it helps protect what people have worked hard to build,” Ahmed said.

He described insurance as “economic infrastructure”, arguing that it helps families recover from setbacks while giving businesses greater confidence to invest and expand.

For households, insurance can provide a financial buffer against unexpected events that might otherwise erode savings or disrupt family plans. For businesses, it can help manage unforeseen losses and operational disruptions.

Ahmed said these benefits extend beyond individual policyholders, linking financial protection to investment, entrepreneurship and broader economic resilience.

“As Nigeria pursues greater economic transformation, we must build institutions and systems that make individuals, families, and businesses more resilient. Protection gives people confidence. Confidence encourages investment. Investment drives growth,” he said.

The campaign also comes amid ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s insurance industry. Ahmed said a stronger and more trusted sector could contribute to entrepreneurship, attract investment and support sustainable development.

AXA Mansard said the initiative forms part of its broader commitment to financial inclusion and expanding access to protection across households, small businesses and larger enterprises.

However, the campaign’s stated ambition to deepen insurance adoption will depend on whether more Nigerians can access products they understand, trust and can afford. The company has not provided specific targets for increased policy uptake under the initiative.

Through Culture of Care, AXA Mansard is seeking to connect insurance with everyday financial decisions, presenting protection as a tool for managing uncertainty rather than simply a response to emergencies.
