The PSC, however, warns that all States of the Federation should heighten their state of preparedness and continue to enforce all protocols put in place, given the renowned greater ease of spread of the Delta variant. These steps are critical as we begin to see worrisome early signs of increasing cases in Nigeria.
The PSC shall continue to minimize the risk of importation of Variants of Concern into the country by strengthening Surveillance at all Points of Entry (POE), enforcing extant quarantine protocols and sustaining the current restrictive measures against travellers arriving from India, Brazil, Turkey and South Africa.
The PSC felicitates with the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. It, however, urges all State Governments and Religious Leaders to be mindful of the potential for the wider spread of the virus during large gatherings.
The PSC, therefore, recommends the following preventive measures for a safe Eid-el-Kabir celebration:
Decentralization of Eid Prayer to neighbourhood Friday Prayer Mosques (outdoor);
Suspension of Durbar activities; and
Observation of limitations on all Indoor gatherings.
Nigerians and all Residents are reminded to stay safe, always.

The governor who spoke on Saturday at Ikenne as part of the ongoing campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the July 24 LG poll, said he remains committed to the project despite stiff resistance in some quarters.

…Urges Virtues of Uprightness and Peaceful Co-existence
As Muslims in the country mark Eid el-Kabir, Rite Foods Limited, a leading brand in the food and beverage sector of the Nigerian economy, has urged the faithful to always sustain the virtues of love, tolerance, and brotherhood which the Islamic religion upholds.
It is also a time for mutual co-existence, where parts of the sacrifice offered to Allah are given as a gift to the poor and needy.
Given this, the Managing Director of Rite Foods Limited, Mr. Seleem Adegunwa, stated that Islamic scholars, leaders, and believers, should use the festive period to sustain virtues that would lead to peace and harmonious co-existence for a more united and prosperous nation.
He admonishes them to always reflect on the sacred teachings of Prophet Muhammed which depicts uprightness and love for one another, following the tenets of the Islamic religion.
Adegunwa further enjoined the believers to always stay healthy during the celebration and with the company’s array of quality products that have set the standard for others in the food and beverage industry, celebrating can be a lot more enjoyable.
He pointed out that Rite Foods has 12 Bigi carbonated soft drink variants, Bigi Premium Table Water, the leading Fearless energy drink brands, as well as Rite Foods sausages that are available for consumers’ wellbeing, and at moments of celebration, such as the Eid el-Kabir.

Cerebral palsy (CP) is an umbrella term that refers to a group of disorders affecting a person’s ability to move. It is due to damage to the developing brain either during pregnancy or shortly after birth.
CP is the most common cause of motor disabilities in childhood. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Trusted Source, it affects at least 1.5 to 4 out of every 1,000 children worldwide.
Cerebral palsy affects people in different ways and can affect body movement, muscle control, muscle coordination, muscle tone, reflex, posture, and balance. Although cerebral palsy is a permanent life-long condition, some of these signs of cerebral palsy can improve or worsen over time.
The parts of the body affected by cerebral palsy, the level of severity and the combination of symptoms can differ for each person. For example, one person may have a weakness in one hand and find tasks like writing or tying shoelaces challenging. While another person may have little or no control over their movements or speech and require 24-hour assistance.

People who have cerebral palsy may also have visual, learning, hearing, speech, epilepsy, and intellectual impairments. Most children are born with CP, but they may not show signs of a disorder until months or years later. Symptoms usually appear before a child reaches age 3 or 4. Cerebral palsy affects a person’s posture, balance, and ability to move. It can also affect someone’s abilities to communicate, eat, and sleep.
As part of her contributions to society, Ayomide Fadase, a 16-year-old Nigerian girl recently had the maiden edition of La Vie Art Exhibition by Ayo Says, at the Didi Museum, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria recently.
The exhibition and sales event showcased a collection of artistic creativity that comes from a deep place of mixed feelings. The exhibition was centered on raising funds for people living with Cerebral Palsy in Nigeria.
Art For Heart Sake: Ayo Says Comes To The Rescue Of Cerebral Palsy Center
The esteemed audience had the privilege to access an exclusive collection of masterpieces by artist, Ayomide Fadase, who is also raising awareness and support for a noble cause; the Cerebral Palsy Center, Surulere, Lagos.
The event, presented by Ayomide Fadase is centered on making a change. Born out of the deep-rooted desire of a passionate prospective college student who is an impact-driven Lagosian at heart. Ayomide Fadase seeks to use her work as a catalyst to evoke compassion and connect people’s hearts with charitable causes that are worth supporting. This donation is a strategic way of aiding immensely, the work done at the center to boost specialized therapy, care, and accommodation to children with Cerebral Palsy in Nigeria and at no cost to the families.
According to Ayo Says, her passion for arts made her commit about 350 hours to draw and painting 26 different works made from a pencil, painting- oil and acrylic paint, markers and amongst others. All the pieces of the exhibition today are oil on canvas paintings.
From her narration, “I started art in school, it was more of an academic thing, I was always told how to draw a line straight but when I moved to the United States of America, it was creative and free-spirited.”
She lamented the poor treatment that the vulnerable Nigerians get from their family members, governments, and the society at large. Affected children face the added burden of stigmatization, inadequate facilities for rehabilitative care, and diminishing educational opportunities. All these prompted her action to use her passion for this cause.
Also speaking at the exhibition, the renowned Professor Bruce Onobrakpeya applauded the efforts Ayomide has put into making the event possible. He also stated, “This is a success story, beautiful works and the motivation to create is very well-founded and she has started very well and the sky is just the starting point.”
“I am impressed by the quality of works that I am seeing here, they all have subjects but one has a free Colour and it’s beautiful. That’s is the one is stood behind and I would keep it in my house and stay with cos it shocked me. It has freedom, it’s appealing, you don’t have to look here and there and find something pleasing. We must also appreciate her parents and good mentoring from the school for supporting her thus far,” he added.
The Government should recognize people like this young lady who love arts, they should be given scholarships. Also, there are workshops places in arts, it should be made available for them so they can mix with other cultures and countries. The government should assist in making arts education attractive to children.
While speaking on the desire of the artiste to donate to the Cerebral Palsy Centre, he said, “Health is expensive, if you can do anything to help and raise money, then it’s a good thing. People who are challenged in the hospital are also introduced to arts and people have got better health-wise especially when they are challenged.”
The delighted father of the artiste, Ayodele Fadase said he sees this exhibition as the little beginnings which should not be despised and also as a bridge to a beautiful and bright future. I would do as a parent is to continue to encourage and create as many opportunities for her to display, harness, cultivate and bring out as much of her internal passions and desires as much as possible, supported all the things to see that seed and water it because it is what people are doing that would make a difference.
In his words, “when you are passionate about anything and you are diligent at it, everything will come through with it. It is good for children to have passion aside from academics which can come in other forms. It is my job as a parent to continue to water it so that she can succeed.”
Lovers of great art and well-meaning Nigerians within Lagos and beyond – who have the rare interest and commitment to the betterment of Lagos State and Nigeria at large – gave reverting reviews to her artwork and also supported the art premier and fundraising exhibition.
Abiye Maternal and Child International Foundation (AMCH) recently at its office in Maryland, Lagos received seven modern mobile ultrasound systems donated by GE Health care West Africa, to help increase access to quality maternal and child medical services especially in rural areas in Lagos.
AMCH International Foundation is a non-governmental organization that aims to provide up-to-date evidence-based life-saving knowledge and skill to frontline health workers in communities across Nigeria. AMCH’s mission is to help contribute to health system strengthening and quality improvement for maternal and newborn care.

According to the AMCH founder, the organization recently partnered with Rotary Club International, California, USA to train health workers in Epe and Ibeju-Lekki communities in Lagos State on Essential Newborn Care Course (ENCC). Unilever Nigeria’s H1’21 performance has shown a decent recovery from last year’s pandemic-induced slump. With Q2’21 Revenue expanding 41% y/y to ₦19.7 billion (H1’21: ₦39.2 billion) – mostly boosted by the much lower base in the previous year, it has provided the much-needed boost to the company’s bottom-line in the first half of the year.
Delving into segmental performances for this quarter, whilst both Food and HPC (Home and Personal Care) have continued to grow, 35% y/y and 49% y/y respectively, partly driven by the newly introduced SKUs (Store Keeping Units), the growth is not as impressive as the growth recorded in Q1’21 (40% y/y and 53% y/y respectively).
Apart from the plague of competition in the seasoning and detergent sub-segments, we believe that growth may be waning because Unilever may have reached its supportable level of turnover, following its credit restructuring strategy.
Unilever Nigeria Plc: Weak Industry Fundamentals Weigh on Earnings – www.brandspurng.com
In addition, given Unilever Nigeria’s play in the premium seasoning cube segment, we do not see competitive pressures easing especially as consumers grapple with declining disposable income.
Furthermore, we believe that the separation of its tea business has also impacted the slower return to its pre-pandemic Revenue performance. With this, we consider the Revenue beat in the H1’21 period (Vetiva: ₦36.0 billion) and estimate that the topline will grow 29% to ₦79.7 billion for the FY’21 (previous: ₦72.1 billion).
Margins become stronger on Q2 costoptimization
On a more positive note, and a measure of improvement, gross margin improved 4.5ppts y/y to 27%, much closer to its five-year average of 28%, amid rising costs. This is because in addition to the significant 41% y/y Revenue growth, the cost of sales only rose 27% y/y to ₦14.3 billion.
For the half-year period, the cost of sales rose 38% y/y mostly driven by the Q1’21 performance. Unilever Nigeria’s exposure to foreign-sourced raw materials remains a concern for us especially when we consider foreign exchange volatilities/challenges.
However, taking this year’s track record into consideration, we expect the company’s cost of sales figures to print 18% higher, taking gross margin 6ppts y/y to 27% for FY’21.
Although Unilever Nigeria has reported a ₦235 million impairment loss on receivables (where it had reported no loss in the previous quarter), bringing operating profit to ₦0.6 billion for the quarter and ₦0.4 billion for the H1’21 period, we do not expect a significant increase in impairment losses for the year. Thus, we expect the current positive operating profit trajectory to maintain for the FY’21 period at ₦1.6 billion.

Finance income buoysearnings
Net finance costs have remained positive at ₦0.6 billion for the H1’21 period, driven by the company’s healthy cash balance of ₦44.2 billion. Given that we do not expect any significant CAPEX spend by the company in the near term, we see no dampening impact on cash or a need for increased debt burden and estimate that net finance income will remain buoyed by cash at ₦1.5 billion for the year.
Unilever’s PAT printed at ₦1.2 billion, (Q2’20: ₦1.6 billion), sufficiently covering its loss position from its Q1’21 performance and bringing H1’21 PAT to ₦0.7 billion (H1’20 LAT: ₦0.5 billion). Our expectation for profit for the year has improved to ₦1.7 billion from a previous LAT expectation of ₦0.8 billion.
Thus, we estimate a target price of ₦14.23 and rate Unilever a HOLD.
Unilever Nigeria Plc., one of the leading players in the Nigerian Consumer Goods sector, specialized in the manufacturing and marketing of Foods and Refreshments, Home-care, Beauty and Personal Care products, released its Q2 2021 unaudited results for the period ended June 30th, 2021.
Unilever Nigeria’s revenue expanded by 43% to N39bn from N27bn in the previous quarter. This shows a decent recovery from last year’s pandemic-induced slump.
Profit after tax grew by 238% to N715m for the period ended June 30, 2021, compared to a profit after tax of N520 million reported for the corresponding period in 2020.
Profit before tax stood at N830m while Net Assets grew by 1.2% from N62.1bn to N62.8bn.
