FG Begins Online Registration Of Unemployed Nigerians

0

The Federal Government will commence the online registration of unemployed persons in the country on Wednesday.

According to the Deputy Director, Information & Public Relations, National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Edmund Onwuliri, the development is a part of the government quest to keep a robust data base for unemployed persons and provide jobs.

The registration, according to him, is in compliance with the third mandate of the NDE which requires it “to obtain and maintain a data bank on employment and vacancies in the country with a view to acting as a clearing house to link job seekers with vacancies in collaboration with other government agencies.”

Onwuliri said the framework for the online registration, being handled by the Directorate has been completed and ready for lunch; adding that the NDE has also completed the framework for the electronic registration of unemployed persons in Nigeria.

He said: “The online portal which goes live on Wednesday April 5, 2017, is designed to capture the relevant details of any unemployed person. It will equally serve as a job exchange portal that will link job seekers and employers.

“There will be a practical demonstration of the workings of the portal at the NDE stand at the on-going 28th edition of the Enugu International Trade on Thursday April 6, 2017. However, the portal can be accessed by logging on to www.jobsforall.ng. The Directorate sees this initiative as a bold step towards deepening the effectiveness of its employment creation strategies and a critical input into the process of designing, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programmes and schemes.”

The online portal will also serve as a meeting point for job seekers and employers thereby reducing the cumbersome process of recruitment among employers of skilled labour in the private and public sectors.

MY VISIT TO THE COCOA HOUSE MUSEUM

Guess what I found out? A Museum at Cocoa House!

I never knew a museum existed in the famous building. A friend told me about it, so I decided to pay a visit. Now, let me take you on a journey to the museum.

The museum is located on the 24th floor of the 25-storey building. The entrance to the museum is divided into two parts: one way leads to the museum itself, and the other leads to the Hall of Fame.

The glamorous sight of the passage connecting the Hall of Fame and Museum captivated me.  The different Adire used to beautify the walls, instead of regular paint, highlighted the Yoruba culture. The small lamps attached to the top of the walls  further enhanced the cultural ambience already provided by the Adire walls. You need to see it!

The Museum

Firstly, our Tour Guide led us through the Museum. We saw pots, cowries, traditional guns, calabashes, guns and a crown. Also, traditional wears like ‘dashiki’, ‘tooro’, ‘kembe’, beads and the likes were in another section of the museum. Lastly, we went to a room containing a gramophone, television, analogue telephones and a wait-and-get camera. In the same section, there is a range of local kitchen utensils, hunting and household items.

The Hall of Fame

Later on, we were led to the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is a huge centre of attraction for tourists. The room is filled with pictures and documentaries of distinguished Yoruba individuals who have contributed to the growth of the country.

Late Rashidi Yekini, a renowned footballer is one those personalities.  Other icons in the Hall of Fame include Professor Wole Soyinka, Late Chief Samuel Akintola, Late Chief Moshood Abiola, Chief Folake Solanke (SAN), Late Madam Olufunlayo Ransome-Kuti, etc.

The Cinema

To wrap up the visit, we saw documentaries on Nigeria in a mini-cinema.

The View

Finally, our curator opened a door in the Hall of Fame section and we saw the ancient city of Ibadan from a vantage point, covered with brown roofs that spoke of time and resilience.

The view is just so exceptional! You should go see for yourself.

PRODUCT REVIEW: LADIES, YOU SHOULD TRY THIS BURDENLESS SANITARY PAD.

Product Name: Virony Smart Lady Sanitary Pad

Highlights: 30 pieces in a pack (18 days, 7 nights and 5 panty liners), extended wings to prevent leak and reusable pack

The first time  I saw the Virony sanitary pad, I was attracted to its fine packaging.  The way the pad was packaged made it look so classy and attractive that I thought it would be really expensive. It appeared so classy and feminine. If someone had told me the whole pack would cost ₦3500, I wouldn’t have objected.

Image result for virony sanitary pad

I was mildly shocked when I realised the whole pack costs N650 only. So, I became curious. I wanted to be sure that this fine product would deliver its promises. Alas! Virony pad delivered beyond my expectations. When I tried it out, I felt so dry and comfortable in it. I slept like a baby with no worries.

Virony sanitary pad comes with 30 pieces in a pack (18 days, 7 nights and 5 panty liners). The pad boasts of extended wings that prevent leaks. It is highly hygienic. Virony sanitary pad is not just about the pads but also about the lady. The pack comes with several other useful items such as a reusable pack that can be re-used as a make-up bag, etc.

One thing I also love about this sanitary pad is its light and dry feel. The pads are very flat so I don’t feel as if I am carrying a burden. It has no bulk or bulge when used. A pack contains enough pads to use without having to buy a second pack during a period. So, it is really perfect for both light and heavy flows.

Virony sanitary pad also comes with panty liners so you don’t have to buy that separately and you don’t have to waste a pad for just a few drops in those last days. I am so excited I found out about Virony sanitary pad and I intend to continue using it. You should try it out too.

What You Need To Know About The new Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN)

Issued by the Federal Ministry of Finance, Abuja.

1. What is the Development Bank of Nigeria?

The Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) is a wholesale financial institution which aims to increase access to finance for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through eligible financial intermediaries (“participating financial institutions”).

2. Which financial institutions will work with DBN as participating financial institutions?

Banks and financial institutions that meet up with a full set of eligibility requirements will be qualified to receive funds from the DBN.

3. How much funding will the DBN have and what are the funding sources?

The DBN will have access to US$1.3bn (N396.5 billion), which will be provided by the World Bank (WB), KfW (German Development Bank), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Agence Française de Development (French Development Agency).

Additionally, the DBN is currently finalising agreements with the European Investment Bank (EIB).

4. Are we starting a new Development Bank?

No, we are not starting a new development bank.

The DBN, was conceived in 2014 however, its take-off had been fraught with delays. The President Muhammadu Buhari led administration inherited the project with a determination to resolve all outstanding issues and set a target of 2017 for its take-off.

5. Will the DBN affect other existing establishments such as Bank of Industry (BOI) and Bank of Agriculture (BOA) negatively?

No, the operations of the DBN will not in any way, result in the elimination of the Bank of Industry (BOI), Bank of Agriculture (BOA) or any other existing development bank.

The operations of the DBN is distinct from other development banks as it is focused on supporting small businesses defined by size and not by sectors.

The DBN will provide loans to all sectors of the economy including, manufacturing, services and other industries not currently served by existing development banks thereby filling an important financing gap.

6. So why the DBN?

The main focus of the DBN is MSMEs.

As a wholesale bank, the DBN will lend wholesale to Microfinance Banks which will on-lend medium to long-term loans to MSMEs.

MSMEs contribute 48.47 percent to the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) of Nigeria but have access to only about 5 percent of lending from Deposit Money Banks (DMBs).

7. Is there going to be a positive impact of the DBN on the economy?

Yes.

The influx of additional capital from the DBN will lower borrowing rates and the longer tenure of the loans, will provide the required flexibility in the management of cash flows, giving businesses the opportunity to make capital improvements and acquire equipment or supplies.

As the economy diversifies, the growth of the MSME sector will have a positive impact on the economy through employment generation, wealth creation and economic growth

8. Who will operate and oversee the DBN?

To ensure the sustainability of the DBN and the security of its mandate, international best-practice was used in establishing the Bank, and will also be used in its continued operations:

9. When is the license expected to be issued?

We have completed and submitted all documentation required for the issuance of the license to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

PayPorte suspends payment on delivery in the aftermath of murdered Jumia courier

Apparently as a reaction to the killing of a Jumia courier by criminals purporting to be buying products online, Payporte.com your preferred online store and sponsor of the ongoing Big Brother Naija reality show, has announced the suspension of “Payment On Delivery”, as part of its payment options.

The MD / CEO, PayPorte, Mr. Eyo, said, the decision was in line with the new CBN cashless policy, increasing security challenges posed by Payment on Delivery option and improved customers satisfaction.

We have suspended the Payment On Delivery option on our website with effect from today, April 3, 2017. Also, to reduce the amount of cash carried from one location to another by our delivery staff” Said Eyo.

“We encourage our customers to make use of our other secured electronic payment options such as online payment or bank transfer for payments. We believe this will also play an active role in the growth of e-commerce business in Nigeria, as well as give a new dimension to the business” Added Eyo.

In line with the suspension, refunds for unsatisfied customers would now be processed within a maximum of 48 hours while only customers who have shopped on PayPorte for 5 times or more will be able access the POD option from the 10th April pending its total discontinuation.

UBA to Expand to Six More African Countries

The United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) has said it plans to extend its presence in Africa from 19 countries, Nigeria inclusive, to 25 countries by 2024.

The Head, Investor Relations, UBA, Mr. Abiola Rasaq, who disclosed this during a media briefing in Lagos at the weekend, said the bank has developed a cost-effective strategy to achieve this plan. He explained that the bank’s operating licence in some of the African countries allows it to expand into some neighboring countries without raising fresh capital

“The way we are going to do it this time around is a different. Initially, when we went into some of these African countries we operate presently we went in fully as a new bank. In the countries, we are targeting, based on our current strategy and the mapping that we have done, we have opportunity with the licence that we have to move into those countries.

“There are two different types of licences. There is the unit licence and uniform licence. The unit licence only allows you to operate in just one country. In Senegal presently, we have a uniform licence. That uniform licence gives us the priority to actually passport our licence for example into Mali, if we think Mali is right.

“So, our business in Chad presently, holds a uniform licence that gives us the opportunity to passport that licence into Niger Republic if we think the timing is right and there are opportunities in those markets. So, this is a strategy we want to use to go into those markets we are targeting.

“We are using this strategy because we want to be able to sweat the capital we have put in each of the businesses without taking excessive risks in each of the countries. So, with this strategy, we don’t have to raise new capital. This is a lot more cost efficient and we would need little or no capital in those businesses and we are likely to make profit even from year one,” Rasaq explained further.

Earlier, the Group Chief Finance Officer, UBA, Mr. Ugo Nwaghodoh, said the objective of the bank is to grow its business in many other countries to be as big as what it has presently in Ghana, Senegal, Congo Brazzaville and Cameroon.

This, according to him is because of the positive growth projections on Africa from notable institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“One of the areas we are driving business in Africa is in supporting key sectors such as oil and gas, infrastructure, agriculture, top manufacturers and as you are aware, a lot of the markets are rich in commodities and agriculture. And these are the key drivers of these economies. What is very important is that in any market you operate, you play very well.

“We are also pioneering the introduction of certain electronic banking solutions in some of these markets and we are making a lot of money from this. We are deepening our play in these markets, driving financial inclusion and that is helping our business,” Nwaghodoh said.

He, however, declined to disclose the bank’s exposure to Etisalat Nigeria, saying: “We are not unaware of the news around Etisalat’s debt. I think the issue has been overhyped and there is a lot of misconception around what the issues are. What I can tell you is that there is no amount that is due for payment to UBA Plc that has not been paid by Etisalat.”

Keystone Bank Appoints Hafiz Bakare Acting CEO As It Prepares For Change Of Name

Most of us are aware that keystone bank has been acquired by Sigma Golf-Riverbank Consortium. And guess what, change of name loading. From Bank Phb to keystone, and next would be.. we are waiting to hear the new name.
I’m a loyal customer so am interested to know what goes on in the bank. But part of my anger this past few days since the announcement of the acquisition of the bank was the illegal and fraudulent deductions made in customers account.

Two days after it was announced that Keystone bank has been acquired, I was so shocked when I got an email that about N232 was deducted from my account for no good reason. It was just termed “charges.” Charges for what? N232 na money for this recession. Plus other deductions made this past couple of days. It was fraudulent because there was text message sent to me about the deduction. Only email was sent to me. Because they knew that there would be an outrage when they send text, many people will see it. But guess what! Some people don’t know that deductions where made from their account because the messages were sent via email. It was unusual about keystone which is why I like them. There are no unnecessary charges and deductions.

Well, keystone bank has a new Acting managing Director/CEO and his name is Hafiz Bakare. Here is his message to customers:

Dear customer,

In the last two weeks, we have provided you with series of updates in respect of the hand-over of the Bank to the Sigma Golf-Riverbank Consortium upon the successful conclusion of the Asset management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCOM), the Bank’s erstwhile owners.

The events within this period culminated in the completion of the erstwhile managing Director/CEO, Mr. Philip Ikeazor’s tenure on Friday 31st March 2017 and my assumption of office as Acting Managing Director/CEO effective 1st April, 2017. Being a member of the immediate past board and management of the Bank, I have the institutional memory which would be leveraged to the advantage of the bank and all stakeholders, especially customers.

The transition has been seamless and I am pleased to lead the bank into the next phase of its corporate existence as a privately-owned financial institution. As earlier communicated, I will be performing this role as a member of the transition board which has Alhaji Umaru Modibbo as Chairman, and the Bank will operate under this transitional arrangement until the full complement of the new board is in place.

I thank you for your business patronage and the confidence reposed in Keystone Bank. As we progress in this new phase, please be assured that the Bank’s capacity will be enhanced in all respects to serve you better.

Thank you.

Hafiz Bakare

Ag. Managing Director/CEO

TWITTER DROPS DEFAULT EGG PROFILE IMAGE

Twitter has announced it is changing the default image for users from the ‘egg’ to a gender neutral silhouette to encourage personalisation and help deter trolls.

Image result for twitter egg

For the past seven years people creating a Twitter account were given the egg profile image until they uploaded their own personalised one. The company said the egg was “a playful way to reference how eggs hatch into birds that send all the Tweets”.

However Twitter wants users to upload their own photos and hopes that the default profile photo will encourage them to do that.

It said it had also noticed that accounts created only to harass others were often not personalised and kept the ‘egg’ image. “This has created an association between the default egg profile photo and negative behaviour, which isn’t fair to people who are still new to Twitter and haven’t yet personalised their profile photo,” said the statement.

The new image was designed to be generic, universal, serious, unbranded, temporary and inclusive.

BBNaija: Nigerians spent ‘N1.1bn’ to vote for four housemates in one week

The housemates who were last week nominated for eviction from the Big Brother Naija reality show – TBoss, Bally, Marvis and Debie-Rise – received a cumulative eleven million votes.

This was made known by host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu during Sunday’s live eviction show.

According to Obi-Uchendu, “The housemates got a total of 11 million votes this week alone”.

To vote for a Big Brother housemate costs N100 per attempt. Eleven million votes at N100 each amounts to N1.1bn.

Although millions of Africans across the continent tune into the show on a daily basis, only Nigerians are allowed to vote.

TBoss- 26.49%

Debie-Rise – 25.36%

Following his eviction, it was announced that no other housemate will be sent home until the end of the show.

Efe, Bisola, Marvis, TBoss and Debie-Rise are the five finalists.
