LASIAMA Begins Renovation of 20 Schools in Lagos

0

Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency (LASIAMA) has commenced renovation work in Secondary Schools across the state.

At a project meeting with Principals of the affected Schools on Thursday, the General Manager of the Agency, Nike Adekanbi stated that this phase of work became necessary following a comprehensive assessment of the state of schools in Lagos State by LASIAMA and the Ministry of Education.

The meeting, according to her was a strategic move to strengthen the relationship between the Agency and the Principals, being major stakeholders on the on-going rehabilitation projects, while adding that LASIAMA would subsequently embark on routine maintenance of the facilities.

She said further that the scope of work involves repairs of plumbing, electrical, windows and doors, damaged roof and walls, toilet and other essential features of the building to make them conducive and functional.

On the anticipated quality of work, the General Manager noted that the Agency, Contractors and End Users are all on the same page on LASIAMA’s zero tolerance for substandard work as the objective is to make the schools’ infrastructure better than they were.

“We have told our contractors of our zero tolerance for poor quality and the need to achieve the best value for money,” she said, adding that every step is being taken to ensure effective monitoring of projects in order to forestall compromise on quality.

She also stated that the Agency is operating in the full spirit of rapid delivery of services to the good people of Lagos, in the bid to fulfil its own share of efforts to make Lagos a twenty-first-century state.

On their part, the School Principals commended the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for giving necessary attention to the state of School Infrastructures while some noted that such efforts have not been witnessed in recent years.

The renovation projects which are to be implemented within one to four months is only a fraction of several Government-owned Infrastructures and Assets to receive attention across various sectors in 2020.

It would be recalled that one of the first actions of Mr Governor upon assumption of office was to call for an assessment of the Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency (LASIAMA) with a view to making the Agency more vibrant and alive to its establishing mandates.

0

…We Hold Our Heroes In High Regard, Govt Insists

Lagos State Government has described as false, the news making the rounds in some quarters of the social media, claiming that it has destroyed the statues of Nigerian music legend and social crusader, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and the late politician, Chief Obafemi Awolowo – both erected at the roundabout on Allen Avenue in Ikeja.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, the State’s Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde who debunked the social media story said contrary to the malicious claims being spread by ill-informed individuals, the statues were removed for the purpose of development.

Oladeinde said the need to carry out Junction improvements in some identified locations necessitated the removal of street furniture, statues of very notable personalities, artworks and billboards.

The Commissioner noted that Lagos State Government holds the nation’s heroes in very high esteem and would not do anything to bring down the exalted heights they have attained during their lifetime directly or indirectly.

He said: “the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, in a bid to finding a lasting solution to traffic gridlocks in the State, identified about sixty congestion points and have started work to improve traffic experience in five major locations.

Oladeinde said the government duly informed and consulted the Fela Anikulapo-Kuti family before the action was taken, noting that the whole process is for the benefit of Lagos residents.

The Commissioner said the Fela statue will be relocated to the roundabout between Allen Avenue and Opebi-Toyin Street.

“We are in the process of erecting the beautiful work of art, depicting Fela Anikulapo-Kuti at the Opebi-Toyin street junction. The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture are also working on a befitting location to erect the old Obafemi Awolowo statue,” he said.

LASG to Monitor, Regulate Activities of Informal Businesses

0

…Advises Business Owners to Comply With Operational Standards

The Lagos State Government has reiterated the need for Lagosians in the informal business sector of the economy, especially those in urban areas, to comply with operational standards, rules and regulations of the government.

The Acting General Manager, Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Authority, LASPEMA, Engr. Kazeem Olanrewaju disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Secretariat Alausa, Ikeja recently.

He revealed that it has become expedient for the informal business sector operating in urban spaces to align with the State Government’s drive to improve its urban aesthetics for sustainable environmental development.

Olanrewaju maintained that the informal business sector such as car wash, metal scrap dealers, block industry, auto sales dealers, suya spot, cement traders, iron rod depots, food vendors, newspaper vendors and vulcanizers among others, cannot operate in urban spaces without getting the proper permit from the appropriate authority.

According to him, “The essence of regulation is to ensure that they comply with all the operational standards in line with the need for a sustainable aesthetic environment in the state”.

While imploring Lagosians to key into the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of the present administration to achieve those development strides and growth, Olanrewaju said the State government is doing this in order to ensure that proper planning guidelines and regulations are put in place so as not to abuse the beauty of the urban spaces.

The Acting General Manager, however, promised that LASPEMA would carry out an awareness campaign periodically to inform and educate the public on operational standards, rules and regulations as stipulated by the State government.

‘If Your Brother is Still Generous to Your Family After Marriage, Thank His Wife’ – Ajero Morgan

A life coach identified as Ajero Morgan on Twitter has gotten people talking on social media after sharing a piece of his mind.

Morgan stated that people who have brothers that are still generous after they have gotten married should not get comfortable with thanking their kin alone.

He noted that the wives of such family members should be heartily thanked and appreciated.

This, according to Morgan, is because men who respect their wives often listen to them. As such, behind the benevolence of such men is the strong support of their wives.

“If after marriage, your brother is still being generous toward your family, don’t always thank him alone. thank & appreciate his wife also. Men who respect their wives listen to them. So, behind your brother’s benevolence is the support of his wife. Don’t take it for granted,” his tweet read.

Fresh starts including Setien at FC.Barcelona as LaLiga Santander’s second half begins (Photos)

The second half of the 2019/20 LaLiga Santander kicks off this weekend with hopes of new beginnings and fresh starts at the top and bottom of the table.

Barcelona reached the half-way point just ahead of Real Madrid on goal difference – but nevertheless the Blaugrana outfit have changed coach with Quique Setien replacing Ernesto Valverde on the bench. Setien’s first game in charge sees Granada visiting the Camp Nou – where the Andalusians have lost on their last five visits without scoring even once, although Diego Martinez’s side did shock Barça 2-0 in the reverse fixture back in September.

Real Madrid host Sevilla at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday afternoon in what should be an emotional occasion with Blancos skipper Sergio Ramos and Hispalenses coach Julen Lopetegui facing their former clubs. This fixture has gone well for Ramos and company in recent years – Madrid has won the last 10, with 33 goals scored and just eight against.

The weekend begins with Friday’s South Madrid derby – as Leganes welcome suburban neighbours Getafe to Butarque, with their long-simmering local rivalry has gone global. Currently, seventh-placed Getafe won 2-0 in October’s reverse fixture – but that defeat sparked Leganes into life and have taken eight points from their last four games to climb towards safety.

Saturday’s action starts with Levante hosting Alaves – the visitors have won four of the last five LaLiga meetings between these teams, including a 1-0 victory on opening day last August.

Later on, Saturday afternoon sees Valladolid visiting Osasuna’s El Sadar – both teams drew more games [nine] than anyone else over the first half of the campaign, including a 1-1 in the reverse fixture at the Estadio Jose Zorrilla back in September.

Saturday’s final game is Eibar hosting Atletico Madrid – the Basques have never beaten Atletico in LaLiga Santander, but came very close during the dramatic 3-2 at the Wanda Metropolitano in the early autumn.

Sunday switches over to the Balearic Islands, with RCD Mallorca hosting Valencia in the early game. The hosts will be hoping for a change in fortune having taken just one point from their last six LaLiga games, while 11 points over the same stretch have Los Che up to sixth and eyeing Champions League qualification.

Real Sociedad at the Benito Villamarin to face Real Betis has the potential to be a thriller – Los Verdiblancos have scored at least three times in their last five LaLiga games, while the Txuri-urdin’s three most recent outings have produced 12 goals in total.

Villarreal’s win at Real Sociedad last week saw the Yellow Submarine finish the first half of the season as one of the most in-form teams in LaLiga, winning all their games during the last month. On Sunday they host an Espanyol side buoyed by a dramatic 2-2 derby draw at home to Barca last time out, in new coach Abelardo Fernandez’s first game in charge.

Athletic Bilbao will be favourites in Sunday afternoon’s clash with Celta Vigo – Los Leones only conceded three goals in total in nine games at their Estadio San Mames over the first half of the campaign, while Celta has just won once on the road so far in 2019/20.
