Heficed Launches Nigerian Presence

0

For the IaaS industry, a market that is set to grow by $101,56-billion in the next five years, the African continent holds special potential for growth. Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy, is already attracting international companies.

Heficed, a provider of network infrastructure solutions, is among those who see a profitable future in the country, having recently launched a new server location in Nigeria’s capital Lagos.

“Nigeria is at the centre of the African continent,” says Vincentas Grinius, Heficed’s CEO, who has already overseen the company’s expansion into South Africa in 2013. “It offers a great base for access to East Africa.” Heficed is at the forefront of the IaaS industry’s development in the region, setting up shop at Nigeria’s only Tier 1 data centre. Infrastructure is still brand new, and it shows: all of the company’s servers are wired using superior 10G technology.

Heficed can thus immediately offer its services to its global customers. These services include IP address solutions, dedicated servers and IP transit. “We are partnering up with some of East Africa’s largest ISPs to make our products available as widely as possible,” he adds.

Demand for Heficed’s services in the region has been high, so providing their accessibility at the earliest opportunity was a priority, Grinius says: “Our customers have been pressing us about Nigeria for a while now. The industry is always developing and customer satisfaction is our chief priority.”

Even though companies offering IaaS solutions compete with each other on a single, worldwide market, the quality of its services is closely tied to a company’s local presence.

“Even though West Africa is a highly requested region, very few IaaS-providers actually have a presence there. This gives us a competitive advantage that we are intent on expanding – eventually, we plan on covering East Africa, too,” Grinius comments.

Having local server bases is especially important for businesses relying on low latency in their services, such as VPNs or purchasing algorithms. “Global coverage on the ground is crucial for network infrastructure providers who want to attract those customers,” he adds. “With our new presence in Nigeria, we maintain peak service quality in yet another region.”

But Heficed is expecting a sleuth of local clients as well. With Nigeria’s economy, its internet accessibility is growing, too. Between 2015 and 2019, the share of the population with access to the internet increased by 10%.

“Over half the country already has steady internet access, and that number will certainly continue growing. With its massive, young population, this translates into the significant potential for new and existing internet-based industries,” concludes Grinius. “The future of our industry lies in Africa.”

The eight finalists we have chosen all stood out to us due to their passion and commitment to using football to bring young people from all walks of life together.”

How will the CBN’s OMO restrictions impact markets?

Recently, the CBN in a bid to cut borrowing cost and spur real sector investment barred non-banking financial institutions and public (save local banks and foreign investors) from participating in the primary and secondary OMO market. Notably, OMO bills are discretionary liquidity and FX management instrument of the CBN, different from FGN’s T-Bills which are for managing budgeted recurrent spending.

In our view, with the size of OMO maturity in the books of the non-banking Corporates, i.e. 23.5% of the OMO Bills outstanding as of Aug-19, investors are compelled to look for alternative assets (majorly FGN instruments, Real Estate, Commodities, and Equities), or demand for more FX, in a bid to reinvest an estimatedN2.5tn maturing OMO bills, from now till Dec-19.

Going forward, we expect a lower yield environment. While the supply of FGN instrument is
unlikely to change, the huge OMO maturities will drive up demand for FGN instruments. Thus, stop rates at primary market auctions will fall. Meanwhile, this should encourage corporate issuers who can now issue/rollover at cheaper rates. Also, fixed-term deposit rates could be lower, since banks can arm-twist their big depositors who would probably be more desperate for yields in the absence of the OMO option. Finally, OMO rate may stay elevated, as the CBN attempt to keep FX stable via sales to FPIs, however, the market for OMO bills will be less liquid.

LinkedIn has unveiled its first UK TV advert featuring real members on the platform revealing what they’re really searching for in a job. The theme of the campaign is “What are you searching for?”

One LinkedIn member tells the camera “I’m searching for a job where I’m in charge.” Another continues “that doesn’t feel like work,” after which a young man appears sat between his Sikh parents and says “I’m searching for a job because it’s time to move out.”

“I’m searching for a job that’s creative,” “that shares my values” and “where I can have a lie-in” are other reasons supplied by LinkedIn members, who reveal redundancy pains and difficulties they’ve had to overcome in order to get the role they love.

The ad then goes on to show how the real LinkedIn members the leap and found a new role via LinkedIn.

Ngaire Moyes, senior director, brand and communications, at LinkedIn EMEA, commented: “What are you searching for? It’s a powerful question, and when we’re talking about jobs the answer is different for everyone which is why sharing the experiences of our real and diverse members is a key part of our advertising strategy.

“This campaign continues to build on our In It Together brand work that seeks to create a new, warmer, more human feel with our members at its heart. We’re excited to shine a light on some of these stories in this latest iteration of the campaign in the UK.”

It was created by ad agency BMB, with creative chairman Matt Lever adding:“A person’s job search is completely unique to them, so we didn’t know what to expect when we asked Linkedin members ‘What are you searching for?’. Fortunately, the responses were inspiring, moving and sometimes downright amusing. As LinkedIn’s first UK TV campaign, we feel like it’s a great introduction for the brand in a category so often devoid of warmth and humanity.”
