United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, the global bank for Africa, observed Africa Day this year on Friday, May 24, 2024, along with the rest of the world.

The underlying subject of the celebration, which took place simultaneously in all of its subsidiaries in Africa, the United Kingdom, France, the United States of America, and the United Arab Emirates, was “Education Fit for the 21st Century.” Staff members celebrated the occasion by dressing in vibrant African clothing, which showcased the diversity of cultures among United Bank for Africa personnel.

UBA subsidiaries staged dance troupes in a number of offices around the continent, entertaining personnel, clients, and the general public with traditional dancers and African drums in addition to a selection of African fruits and refreshments.

The selection of the best-dressed employees across several categories, which represented the rich diversity of African culture, was one of the event’s main highlights. Chisom Augustine won the Best Indigenous Concept award from the staff, while Sarah Richter won the Best Indigenous Concept (Rest of the World) award from the fans. Temitayo Abayomi was selected by the jury as the best-dressed Nigerian employee. Numerous other winners from different cadres also surfaced.

At a lavish concluding ceremony that was conducted at the bank’s head office and was repeated at other branches and subsidiaries, each winner was given a variety of cash rewards.

During the closing ceremony at the UBA Head Office in Lagos, Modupe Akindele, the Group Head of Human Resources at UBA, gave a speech to the workers. She thanked them for their years of hard work and mentioned that the yearly event had become a way of life for the bank.

Akindele disclosed, “We at UBA celebrate Africa Day with the rest of Africa. We are Africa, United by one Bank. Today is a day to remind ourselves that we have all it takes in Africa, be it fashion, talent, and creativity. The message is about being African and being proud of our heritage. We want to showcase who we are and what we have.”

“For us at UBA, identifying with Africa and indeed Africa Day is synonymous with who we are as a bank. It presents us the opportunity to remind ourselves, the world and indeed Africa that we owe ourselves the duty of making Africa the continent of our dreams,” she added.

Every year, UBA observes Africa Day in accordance with the official celebration observed by African countries, reinforcing its long-held conviction that the continent owns the future.

The bank takes use of the event to rekindle the African spirit that propels the UBA group’s goal of being the continent’s leading supplier of financial services and its rise to prominence as an economic force.
