Axxela Limited and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Gas Marketing Limited have received praise from the Nigerian Gas Association for initiating the first phase of their 72.5km natural gas pipeline project in Lagos.
The project is a critical turning point in the development of Nigeria’s natural gas infrastructure since it links Eko Atlantic City on Victoria Island, Lagos, to piped natural gas.
The NGA President, Mr. Akachukwu Nwokedi, emphasized in a statement accessed by BrandSpur corporate news today how crucial the initiative is to assist Nigeria’s energy transition.
His statement partly reads: “The successful commissioning of this 5km pipeline network, connecting Eko Atlantic City to PNG, is a testament to the visionary leadership at Axxela and NGML to foster energy efficiency and promote sustainable urban development in Nigeria. This milestone enhances the energy security of the Victoria Island metropolis and sets a benchmark for future urban energy solutions in Nigeria.”
The president of the NGA stated that the cooperation between Axxela and NGML demonstrated the effectiveness of strategic alliances in advancing the Decade of Gas agenda, a revolutionary project aimed at optimising Nigeria’s gas resources for the country’s growth.
He expressed hope that the project would spur other investments in natural gas infrastructure throughout Nigeria, solidifying the nation’s position as a leader in the global energy transition, along with the renewed focus and efforts to enhance and extend gas supply sources.

Nwokedi stated: “We envision a country where all of Nigeria’s leading commercial cities are connected to natural gas to foster increased energy access for residents, accelerate industrialisation, engender affordable energy prices, cement supply security, and advance environmental stewardship.
“This milestone achieved by Axxela and NGML is a critical step toward realising this vision. It exemplifies the strategic infrastructure development needed to ensure natural gas remains a cornerstone of Nigeria’s energy future,” he added.
He went on to highlight the importance of these kinds of initiatives in aiding the Federal Government’s energy transformation program, which seeks to utilise Nigeria’s abundant natural gas reserves for the country’s growth. He proposed that building the natural gas pipeline network to vital cities like Lekki and Victoria Island was creating the foundation for a stronger, more sustainable energy system that would pay off in the long run.
The project is to supply natural gas to the Lekki neighbourhood, which is developing quickly. This would guarantee sustainable, efficient, and dependable energy for both business and residential consumers.
Axxela had previously stated that, as the initial stage of a larger project, it was anticipated to open the door for improved domestic gas utilisation, considerably advancing Nigeria’s socioeconomic development and environmental sustainability.
