
The subject for the 9th edition of the Lagos Public Relations Industry Gala and Awards (LaPRIGA) 2024 has been formally revealed by the Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
LaPRIGA, which honours exceptional contributions to communication, innovation, and societal effect, has long been a distinguished event in Nigeria’s PR scene.
At a special media briefing accessed by BrandSpur national news stories today, Mrs. Comfort Obot Nwankwo, Chairman of the Lagos NIPR, introduced the topic, The Shining Stars. She expressed delight in the event’s increasing importance, pointing out that LaPRIGA still honours remarkable people and organisations that have paved the way for future developments in the public relations sector.
According to her: “This year’s theme, The Shining Stars, pays tribute to the professionals who have set themselves apart with their creativity, strategic thinking, and measurable impact.
“Public relations practitioners are often the unsung heroes behind successful narratives that build trust and drive change. We are here to celebrate their brilliance,” she said.
A wide number of categories will be included at LaPRIGA 2024, such as Internal Communication, Crisis Communication, Technology PR, and the prestigious Public Relations Practitioner of the Year award. Additionally, there will be a separate award for contributions to environmental practices, with a special emphasis on sustainability.
Mr Muyiwa Akintunde, a seasoned industry veteran who chairs the screening team, will apply stringent criteria to assess the nominees. Mr. Akintunde will make sure that only the most worthy applicants are acknowledged for their accomplishments, working with a group of well-respected specialists.

The LaPRIGA Planning Committee Chairman, Mrs. Victoria Uwadoka, emphasised how PR specialists are playing a more important role in the current digital era, with trends like data-driven campaigns and corporate social responsibility growing in importance. According to her, LaPRIGA 2024 will serve as a forum to establish industry standards as well as a celebration of accomplishments.
Continuing, she had this to say: “As communicators, we play a critical role in today’s world of transparency and accountability.
“This theme is a call to all PR professionals to rise above the ordinary, embody excellence, and become beacons of light in our field,” she added.
Members of the NIPR Lagos Chapter may cast ballots for LaPRIGA 2024, and they will choose the winners in a few different categories.
Mr. Akintunde added that important measures would be employed to assess the year’s most successful initiatives and that more information would be released soon.
Mrs. Nwankwo urged all communicators to keep aiming for excellence, originality, and innovation as LaPRIGA 2024 draws near. She said: “Let this event remind us that our work matters. Through strategic communication, we are shaping narratives and influencing decisions that drive meaningful societal change.”
