Through a thorough awareness campaign, NNPC Retail Limited (NRL), a subsidiary of NNPC Ltd., has sensitized over 1,000 auto mechanics to the benefits of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a cleaner and more cost-effective fuel alternative in Nigeria.

A sizable audience made up of car mechanics and technicians from all over the nation attended the sensitization exercise that was performed during the National Artisans and Technicians Conference, which was held last week in Lagos and accessed by the BrandSpur national news desk.

The goal of the engagement was to promote the use of sustainable energy sources and demystify the process of switching gasoline-powered cars to CNG. NRL not only highlighted the advantages of CNG conversion but also its Oleum lubricant line, which is renowned for performing exceptionally well in cars running both gasoline and CNG. The historic project further demonstrates NRL’s dedication to spearheading the country’s switch to greener, more sustainable energy sources while making sure Nigerian craftsmen are aware of new developments in the auto industry.

A statement from Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., claims that the conference included hands-on demonstrations of the technical aspects of converting gasoline-powered vehicles to CNG, giving mechanics a firsthand understanding of the procedure.

During the engagement session, NRL’s Executive Director of Retail Operations and Nobility, Baba Shettima Kukawa, urged the technicians to acquire the skills required for CNG conversion, highlighting the growing trend that will influence Nigeria’s automotive industry going forward.

According to him: “We believe that sensitizing mechanics on the importance of CNG adoption is critical to achieving Nigeria’s long-term energy goals. While this engagement focused on raising awareness, we urge artisans to actively pursue the skills required to contribute to this transformative shift toward cleaner and more affordable fuel options. This initiative represents a crucial step in advancing the nation’s transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.”

In response, the chairmen of the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) and the Motor Mechanics and Technicians Association of Nigeria (MOMTAN) praised NRL for its initiative and demanded that it be expanded to include even more mechanics and technicians across the country. Both organizations emphasized how critical it is to keep up the momentum behind Nigeria’s transition to greener energy sources.

During the event, the NRL supported the local car industry by giving auto technicians coveralls, toolboxes, and generators to improve their company operations and encourage sustainability. In line with NNPC Ltd.’s overarching strategy goal of lessening the environmental effect of Nigeria’s energy use while lowering fuel prices for consumers, NNPC Retail is dedicated to promoting CNG as an alternative fuel.
