X has officially rolled out a completely rebuilt version of its Android application worldwide, introducing a redesigned software architecture aimed at delivering faster performance, improved reliability and quicker deployment of future features for millions of users.
The updated app, now available through the Google Play Store, replaces the platform’s legacy Android codebase with a modern foundation developed over nearly a year. Users are expected to experience quicker loading times, smoother navigation and more dependable notifications following the overhaul.
The Android rebuild follows the company’s decision in 2025 to abandon incremental updates in favour of creating an entirely new application from the ground up after persistent criticism that the Android experience lagged behind its iOS counterpart. Brandspur Brand News understands that the project was led by X’s product team as part of a broader effort to modernise the platform and accelerate product development.
Company executives have described the initiative as one of the most significant engineering projects undertaken by X, noting that the new architecture will allow developers to introduce updates and new capabilities more efficiently than under the previous system.
The launch also aligns with X’s wider strategy of expanding beyond social networking into a broader digital ecosystem. In recent months, the company has introduced standalone services including X Money and X Chat as it continues to diversify its platform offerings.
The rebuilt Android application is expected to strengthen X’s position in markets where Android devices account for the majority of smartphone users, including many countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America. The improved performance could help address longstanding complaints about delayed feature releases, software bugs and inconsistent user experiences on Android devices.
Despite the rollout, the company acknowledged that development work is continuing. Optimisation for older Android smartphones remains in progress, while support for Spaces, X’s live audio service, has yet to be integrated into the rebuilt application.
Additional capabilities, including a new video editor, react-with-video functionality, cashtags and custom timelines, are also scheduled to arrive through future software updates as the company continues to expand the app’s functionality.
Android users can access the redesigned experience by downloading or updating the latest version of X through the Google Play Store, marking a significant milestone in the platform’s ongoing product transformation.
