Black Market Naira To Dollar Exchange Rate For Today 28th September 2023

The Nigerian naira posted a marginal appreciation against the United States dollar in the official foreign exchange market on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, while trading remained largely unchanged in the parallel market, extending the relative stability that has characterised the country’s currency market in recent weeks.

Latest figures from the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) showed the local currency trading at approximately ₦1,380 to the dollar, reflecting a slight improvement from previous sessions. In the parallel market, Bureau de Change operators quoted the dollar at about ₦1,410 for buying and ₦1,430 for selling, although prices differed slightly across locations.

The narrowing gap between official and parallel market exchange rates continues to highlight the impact of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s foreign exchange reforms aimed at improving market liquidity, strengthening price discovery and encouraging greater investor participation. Brandspur Banking News Desk understands that the reforms have contributed to a more stable trading environment compared with previous periods of significant volatility.

Currency traders say the naira has maintained a relatively steady position despite intermittent demand for foreign exchange from importers and businesses. The market has also benefited from improved dollar inflows and periodic interventions by the Central Bank, helping to cushion pressure on the local currency.

Recent market activity indicates that official and street market exchange rates have remained within a relatively narrow range, suggesting that supply and demand conditions have become more balanced than they were before the implementation of recent foreign exchange policy changes.

Financial analysts are closely monitoring Nigeria’s external reserves, crude oil earnings and upcoming monetary policy decisions for indications of the naira’s direction during the second half of 2026. These factors remain critical to sustaining exchange rate stability and supporting confidence in the foreign exchange market.

The Central Bank’s ongoing efforts to improve transparency and deepen liquidity in the foreign exchange market have been widely viewed as key drivers behind the reduced disparity between official and parallel market rates. Market participants believe continued policy consistency and stronger foreign exchange inflows will remain essential to preserving the naira’s current stability.

With demand for foreign currency expected to remain elevated from manufacturers, importers and other businesses, investors and economic stakeholders will continue to watch closely for developments that could influence the dollar-to-naira exchange rate in the weeks ahead.
