Kemi Adeosun Launches Nidacity Platform To Strengthen Nigeria Startup Ecosystem And Reduce High Failure Rate

Former Nigeria Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has launched Nidacity, a private-sector-driven educational media platform aimed at supporting entrepreneurs with practical knowledge, mentorship, and data-driven insights to improve business survival rates across the country.

The platform, which went live on Tuesday, is designed as a central hub for Nigerian founders, with a focus on addressing structural challenges contributing to the high failure rate of startups. It targets young and female entrepreneurs in particular, offering access to training materials, business resources, and market intelligence.

Adeosun said the initiative is intended to respond to the estimated 95% failure rate among startups in Nigeria, noting that the country’s strong entrepreneurial culture has not translated into sustained business success due to gaps in education, access to support systems, and reliable data.

Brandspur Banking News Desk reports that Nidacity will begin its operations with a nationwide digital survey tagged “Many Roads,” which aims to document the origins and evolution of entrepreneurship in Nigeria. The survey is expected to serve as a living archive, capturing family business histories and identifying patterns that influence enterprise development.

According to Adeosun, the findings from the survey will provide evidence-based insights into the cultural, social, and structural factors shaping Nigeria’s business landscape. The data will be shared with policymakers, investors, educators, and other stakeholders to inform future interventions and policy decisions.

The platform is structured around five core components, including a podcast series featuring interviews with entrepreneurs, a repository of founder profiles to support peer learning, a resource centre offering tools for business operations, an education section with courses and webinars, and a news and analysis segment focused on the business environment.

Nidacity also aims to function as a digital ecosystem that combines content, community, and practical guidance, delivered through multimedia formats to reach a broad audience of existing and aspiring entrepreneurs across Nigeria.

Adeosun emphasised that the initiative is not a charitable effort but an investment in strengthening the country’s economic base by improving the performance and sustainability of small and medium-sized enterprises, which account for a significant share of employment in Nigeria.

She added that improving survival rates among startups could have a substantial impact on job creation and economic growth, given the central role SMEs play in the country’s labour market.

The launch builds on Adeosun’s extensive background in public finance and economic reform, as she previously served as Minister of Finance and held senior roles in subnational governance, where she worked on fiscal management, revenue expansion, and transparency initiatives.
