The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations commemorated World Autism Awareness Day during its April PR Clinic, underscoring the role of public relations in promoting inclusion and supporting individuals living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Held on April 2, 2026, the professional gathering served as a platform to explore how ethical communication can shape public perceptions and foster social inclusion.
Brandspur Brand News reports that Dr. Samuel Ayetutu, Chairman of Lagos NIPR, reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to ethical communication and social impact through its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, the “Extra Mile Project,” which is designed to support individuals and communities affected by autism.
Speaking at the event, Ayetutu emphasised the responsibility of PR practitioners in promoting accurate narratives and inclusive storytelling. He called on media professionals and organisations to adopt communication practices that avoid bias, labelling, and exclusion, noting that such efforts are vital for building a more inclusive and understanding society.
As part of its CSR commitment, the Chapter announced plans to present a cheque to Puresouls Learning Foundation, fulfilling a pledge to allocate a portion of proceeds from the Lagos Public Relations Industry Gala and Awards (LaPRIGA) 2025 toward autism advocacy.
The April PR Clinic highlighted Lagos NIPR’s continued dedication to advancing ethical standards, positioning public relations as a force for social good, and promoting awareness and support for autism across Nigeria.
