The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has issued a public alert warning Nigerians about the sale of counterfeit and unregistered Cerelac Mixed Fruits and Wheat products currently circulating in Lagos State.
According to the agency, the alert follows a formal complaint received by Nestlé Nigeria, the legitimate Marketing Authorisation Holder of the authentic Cerelac brand. The complaint pointed to a suspected counterfeit product purportedly manufactured by Nestlé Spain and bearing Batch Code 308002910.
Brandspur Brand News gathered that during preliminary examination, the complainant reported that the fake Cerelac product emitted an unusual odour suggestive of possible contact with fuel, raising serious concerns over contamination and potential health risks for infants and young children.
NAFDAC confirmed that the said product is neither registered nor approved by the agency. The agency has since advised caregivers and members of the public to exercise extreme caution when purchasing infant cereals and to verify product authenticity through proper channels.
The agency further directed all distributors, retailers, and importers to immediately stop the sale and distribution of the unregistered Cerelac variant and to report any related activity to the nearest NAFDAC office. Investigations are ongoing to track the source of the counterfeit products and apprehend those responsible.
