LAIF Awards Set For November 27-28 As Festival Unveils New Board And Marks 21 Years Of Creativity

The Lagos Advertising and Ideas Festival has confirmed November 27 and 28, 2026, as the dates for this year’s awards ceremony, with organisers positioning the milestone 21st edition as a launchpad for transforming the event into a globally recognised creative platform.

The announcement came during a press briefing held last Thursday at Amber Residence in GRA, Ikeja, where the festival’s newly constituted board was formally introduced and plans for the anniversary edition, themed “Glitch to Great,” were outlined to industry stakeholders.

Lanre Adisa, President of the Advertising Association of Nigeria, opened the briefing by celebrating the industry’s sustained contribution over two decades. But his message extended beyond nostalgia, framing the anniversary as a moment to elevate ambition rather than simply commemorate history.

Brandspur Brand News gathered that Adisa challenged the creative community to think beyond running a successful local awards show. He argued that the world is not waiting for another good awards platform but is waiting to discover the next global standard, insisting that the standard must come from Lagos. He pointed to Nigeria’s underrepresentation in continental competitions as a gap the industry must close first, calling for more originality, craft, and courage from agencies and creatives.

Funke Adekola, Managing Director of Dentsu Creative and newly appointed Chair of the LAIF board, described the new season as an evolution rather than a routine awards cycle. She said the board’s structure, which combines agency leaders, media executives, and client-side representatives, was designed specifically to carry the festival’s legacy into its third decade with integrity in process, commercial relevance in categories, and mutual value for every stakeholder.

Vice Chairman Jumoke Akinyemi addressed questions on LAIF’s growth beyond Nigeria, noting that the board has spent recent years building jury and entry networks with agencies in Ghana and other African markets. She said past LAIF winners with campaigns originating outside Nigeria, including a Grand Prix tied to a South African client, demonstrated that the awards already carry regional weight worth building on.

Organisers confirmed that the Young LAIFers and UniLAIFers competitions, aimed at early-career professionals and university students, will run during awards week alongside the main ceremony. The entry portal for the 21st edition is expected to open in August once technical preparations are complete.

For Nigeria’s advertising industry, the LAIF awards have long served as the most prestigious recognition of creative excellence. The festival’s evolution from a local competition to a potential regional standard-bearer reflects broader ambitions within the sector to compete on the global stage.

The “Glitch to Great” theme suggests a narrative of resilience and transformation, fitting for an industry that has navigated economic headwinds, technological disruption, and shifting consumer behaviour while continuing to produce work that resonates across markets. The 21st edition will test whether that creative output can command attention beyond Nigeria’s borders.
