Xiaomi is set to launch the Redmi 17 in Nigeria on September 1, 2026, with the new entry-level smartphone placing a 7,500mAh battery and 45W Turbo Charging at the centre of its pitch to consumers.
Xiaomi Nigeria confirmed the launch date as the company prepares to introduce a device aimed at users who prioritise long battery life. The battery is rated to provide up to 2.32 days of backup, according to Xiaomi’s published specifications.
The Redmi 17 also supports 45W wired charging, with Xiaomi listing a full charge time of about 96 minutes. Brandspur Brand News reports that the phone additionally supports 22.5W reverse wired charging, allowing users to charge compatible accessories and other devices from the smartphone.
The device comes with a 6.9-inch HD+ IPS LCD display and a 120Hz refresh rate, offering a larger viewing area and smoother scrolling than conventional 60Hz screens. The panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.
Xiaomi is offering the Redmi 17 in both 4G and 5G configurations. The 4G version is powered by MediaTek’s Helio G91-Ultra chipset, while the 5G model uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 platform.
Photography is handled by a 50MP AI dual-camera system at the rear, complemented by an 8MP front-facing camera. The combination is positioned to cover everyday photography and video calls without pushing the phone into a premium price segment.
The Redmi 17 also carries an IP64 rating for resistance to dust and water. Another distinctive feature is a dynamic RGB notification light ring on the rear, adding a visual element to alerts and other phone functions.
On the software side, the device runs Android 16 with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 interface, giving buyers access to the company’s latest software environment at launch.
The emphasis on battery capacity and charging speed is particularly relevant for Nigerian smartphone users who rely heavily on their devices for communication, social media, streaming, mobile payments and other daily activities. A larger battery can also reduce the frequency with which users need access to a power source during the day.
The Redmi 17 is expected to start at about ₦213,400, equivalent to roughly $150, although the final Nigerian retail price and availability may vary by configuration and sales channel.
With its September 1 launch, Xiaomi is positioning the Redmi 17 in Nigeria around endurance, fast charging and a large high-refresh-rate display, while offering both 4G and 5G options to cover different connectivity and budget requirements.
