Flam, an artificial intelligence company developing interactive digital content, has raised $40 million in Series B funding as it moves to expand its technology, develop new AI models and grow its enterprise business globally.
The funding round was led by QED Investors, with Claypond Capital, Martin Chavez, Olivier Pomel, Venky Harinarayan and Shah Rukh Khan participating. Existing investors RTP Global and Dovetail also increased their investment in the company.
Brandspur Brand News reports that Flam has secured more than 100 enterprise customers within six quarters, including global brands such as Google, Emirates and KFC, which use its technology across marketing, product visualisation, employee learning, entertainment, customer engagement, support and sales.
Founded in 2021 and headquartered in San Francisco, Flam is developing technology designed to make digital content responsive to users rather than simply something they watch or view. The company currently holds more than 15 patents and operates five AI models.
One of its products, Flicks, creates interactive videos that can change people, products or scenes during playback. Flam said its technology uses a patented compression system and can deliver content with a 50 millisecond time to first buffer.
Its Forge editing model allows users to provide image references and modify specified elements, while Airboards are designed as high fidelity 3D experiences that respond to touch, voice and haptic interaction without requiring users to install an application.
The company is also developing AI generated video through Fable, which converts images into video assets, while its Visual Agents are designed to interact with users through conversational video rather than conventional text based chat interfaces.
Flam’s Visual Agents combine several technologies, including facial expression and motion transfer, multilingual voice capabilities and Falcon, a 26 billion parameter mixture of experts large language model. The company said the system can return responses in under two seconds.
Nigel Morris, co-founder and managing partner at QED Investors, said Flam was addressing an area of the AI content market that remained relatively underdeveloped by focusing on interactive experiences rather than simply improving existing content formats.
The company also has a specific route into the Nigerian market through SmartSense Technologies, which serves as its exclusive partner in the country.
Dr Seyi, chief executive officer of SmartSense Technologies, described Nigeria as a mobile first market where brands and consumers quickly adopt new forms of digital engagement. He said the partnership would focus on adapting Flam’s technology for local business needs and helping brands, agencies and enterprises deploy it.
For Nigerian businesses, the partnership creates a channel through which Flam’s interactive content technology can be introduced into local marketing and enterprise applications. SmartSense said its role includes technology deployment, market localisation, partnerships and execution across Nigeria and other African markets.
The latest investment will fund research and development of Flam’s AI models, expansion of its product portfolio and the scaling of enterprise sales in international markets.
The funding comes as Flam seeks to build on its existing customer base and develop interactive digital experiences that allow audiences to respond to and participate in content rather than simply consume it.
