Okomu Oil records N4bn profit, pays N1.92bn dividend in H1 2020

Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc, one of Nigeria’s leading producer of Oil Palm and Rubber crash crops for local and exports consumption in its H1’2020 financial statements published on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) website on Tuesday 28th July 2020, grew its Turnover (Revenue) and Net-Income (PAT) by 57.92% and 58.44% respectively compared to the corresponding period in 2019.

Drivers of the strong Revenue performance

  • The impressive Revenue performance reported by the company (especially from Oil Palm sales) was mainly driven by the 74.6% increase in local sales to ₦12.42 billion, compared to ₦7.11 billion reported in the corresponding period of 2019.
  • The strong leap in local sales (we suspect) was driven by the decision of the Nigerian government to shut all her land borders with neighbouring countries since August 2019, to curb smuggling of cheap but inferior substitute from these countries.
  • Besides, we also noticed that earnings from export sales dropped by 23.94% to ₦1.10 billion in H1’2020 amid a surge in demand from local consumers and the reduced average price of Oil Palm in the international market to MYR 2,450/T as against MYR 2,558/T in the corresponding period of 2019.

Okomu Oil records N4bn profit, pays N1.92bn dividend in H1 2020

Cost of sales tapered despite increased Turnover, boost Profit Margin significantly

  • Despite the significant jump in the company’s revenue from sales in the period relative to the prior year, its Cost of Sales for both Oil Palm and Rubber products tapered by 29.09% (to ₦996mn) and 69.77% (to ₦86.63mn) respectively compared to H1’2019.
  • This we believe was supported by the gains from capacity expansion effort of the company which has recently resulted in a 4,000 hectares expansion of its Oil Palm plantation and a 1,500 hectares increase of Rubber plantation.
  • Resultantly, Gross Profit Margin strengthened significantly, appreciating by 81% to print at ₦12.44 billion against ₦6.87 billion reported in the corresponding period of 2019.

Acquisition of New Loans for PPE drove Finance Cost up

  • There was a 207.25% jump in the company’s finance cost to ₦310 million when
compared to the corresponding period in 2019.
  • This (we suspected) was due to a 52.7% or ₦1.27 billion increase in New Loans (to ₦2.63bn), used in the acquisition of new Property, Plant, and Equipment (PPE) worth ₦1.97 billion in the period.

PBT, PAT, and EPS finished strong.

  • As a result of the impressive performance of the company’s earnings and cost items, Pre-profit Tax (PBT), Net-income (PAT), and Earnings per share (EPS) reported in H1’2020 rose by 94%, 58.4%, and 58.5% respectively to settle at ₦5.5 billion, ₦4 billion, and ₦4.2k compared to ₦2.83 billion, ₦2.53 billion, and ₦2.65k in the corresponding period of 2019.

Balance sheet and Net Cash Flow gained further momentum.

  • The company’s Current Ratio for the period printed at 2.41:1 against 2.20:1 in
H1’2019. This suggests that more easily than in the corresponding period of 2019, the company can offset all its short term obligations without experiencing a strain.
  • Besides, the company’s Leverage ratio of 0.58:1 implied that its Total Asset value is almost twice as its Total liabilities. Hence, this suggests that the company is financially stable.
  • For the Cash Flows analysis, the company’s Net Operating Cash Flow jumped 716.5% from ₦662.91 million in H1’2019 to ₦5.41 billion in H1’2020. This development (despite reporting negative Net Investing and Financing Cash Flows) drove the company’s Free Cash Flow up by 207.8% to ₦5.46 billion compared to ₦1.77 billion in H1’2019.

12-months outlook for the Business

  • Despite the threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic on the broader macroeconomic the environment in Nigeria and across the globe in the near term, we maintain a positive outlook for the business of Okomu Oil Palm over the next 12-months period due to its increasing maximization of the domestic market potential.
  • We believe the business will continue to benefit from the protracted land border closure by the federal government and the increased funding of the agricultural sector by the current administration in its effort to diversify the Nigerian economy away from crude oil.
  • Hence, we make an upward review of our 12-months target price for Okomu Oil Palm Plc to ₦74.80 from the ₦63.20 set in the 2019 financial year.

Initially, I found the Cambridge programme a bit challenging because I had to take subjects like Economics and Business Studies which were new to me but the practical, application-based, learner-focused style of the programme meant that I was soon comfortable with those subjects and my other subjects and able to excel in them.’ He plans to go to Imperial College for a degree in Mechanical engineering.

Shreya Jindal from The Regent Secondary School, Abuja who received 1 Top in World, 4 Top in Nigeria and a Best Across Eight in Cambridge IGCSE in the June 2019 exam series, said: ‘The Cambridge programme builds a strong foundation for higher education.

Even though it requires you to study a specified syllabus, most of what you’re tested on is applied knowledge. This makes sure you really understand what you’re learning. My advice for other students is to firstly find out how you learn.

Don’t be afraid of trying different methods until you find what works best for you. The Regent employs various 21st-century learning ideas that have something to offer to everyone.

It is also really important to pay attention in class; you’d be surprised how much of the information actually sticks so you don’t have to go home and read everything again. Take advantage of all the resources provided by the school, and work with your teachers to get the best out of the system which offers holistic education.’ Shreya is currently doing her Cambridge International A Levels.

All the top-performing students will receive certificates from Cambridge International in recognition of their achievements.

Ohmyhome Emerged as Top Performing Agency Despite COVID-19 Industry Setback

All Ohmyhome’s in-house agents have emerged as the top 100 agents with over almost 30,000 agents nation-wide, reinforcing Ohmyhome as the wave of the future in PropTech Industry in Singapore

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach – 3 August 2020 – Singapore’s unique one-top property solution Ohmyhome announced today that its in-house agents emerged amongst the top 1% for HDB flat resale transactions. This comes at a time when the nation has experienced a plunge in real estate transactions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Derived from the Council for Estate Agencies (CEA) data, the ranking is based on the number of HDB resale transactions from 1 January 2020 to 8 July 2020. Over this 6-month period, Ohmyhome agents have transacted an average of 16 HDB resale flats per agent.

Reinforcing their position at the forefront of the Proptech industry, one of Ohmyhome’s top performing agents has also recently tapped on Ohmyhome’s virtual viewing tools and closed a five-room HDB flat in Woodlands at a record-breaking price when the 1,291 sq ft unit changed hands for $410,888, within 4 days of its exclusivity contract with Ohmyhome. Despite the dampened market, Ohmyhome’s proprietary technology in aggregation of buyers in the market enabled the company to match buyers to the property, fetching a higher selling price for the seller. This tops the previous highest record of $398,000 chalked up by a 1,291 sq ft, five-room flat in the same area, back in June 2017.

Rhonda Wong, CEO and Co-founder of Ohmyhome, noted that the factors behind Ohmyhome’s success include the strong culture of teamwork, which stems from the company’s robust ecosystem and the team’s unwavering commitment towards a common goal of seeing Ohmyhome’s methods and speed of transacting become the norm globally.

“At Ohmyhome, we strive together as a team, supporting one another. When you engage our agent service, you are also engaging the entire company that is dedicated to providing you with a seamless housing journey from transactions to renovations. It has always been part of Ohmyhome’s DNA to be there for every step of the housing journey. Our agents being in the top 1% proves that Ohmyhome’s strategy of being a tech-led property company, with a focus on 360-degree support for agents, is leading the charge to shape the future of the Proptech industry,” Rhonda said.

The Okro Example: How to Enjoy Nigerian Soups and Swallow and not add Weight

Over these weeks leading up to the GTBank Food and Drink Fair, one thing has been established: “Food is an Art”. If so, it follows that chefs will have mentors on the one hand, and protégés on the other.

What a good Food Artist will teach you in the kitchen is simple: There are no rules set in stone; just paint. Cook what works for you. Find a perfect blend for the ingredients you like, and create a masterpiece.

Some people, though they love Nigeria’s local dishes, fear to eat them, because they believe the foods are high-calorie contents. If you have been trying to figure out a way to eat Nigerian soups and swallow, and all the orishirishi and still loose or not add weight, we’ve got you covered!

The devil isn’t really Nigerian Food; it is what we choose as the ingredients, the quantities and portions, as well as the accompaniments… Some people love Egusi Soup, but not the one made with palm oil.

Those who only know the traditional way of making the soup may be outraged to hear of Egusi Soup made with vegetable oil. But they needn’t be. As a matter of fact, they should learn the new style, try it out, and judge for themselves.

Nigerian Soups and Swallow

Here’s a tried and trusted menu you will love: Okro and Mackerel Soup. Mackerel, popularly referred to as “Titus”, is a very flavorful fish and works really well in Okro Soup. The Okro itself is nicely sliced rounded and retains its shape when cooked.

This easy and healthy recipe is completely oil-free can be served with “swallow” or eaten alone. The mackerel and smoked mackerel add flavour and richness to the simple recipe with minimal ingredients. Once preps are done, this dish is ready in about 20 minutes.

Here goes the easy recipe:

Ingredients

  • 500 grams Fresh Okro/Okra (Washed and sliced)
  • 1 large Onion (Finely Chopped)
  • 2 Yellow Scotch Bonnet Peppers (Nsukka pepper) (Finely Chopped)
  • 3 Tbsp Ground Crayfish
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 Stock Cubes (4 grams each)
  • 1/2kg fresh Titus(About 1 whole, washed and sliced)
  • 1 Large Smoked Mackerel (Titus) (Peeled and deboned and left in large chunks)
  • 1 ½ Cups Water

Nigerian Soups and Swallow

Method

  • Prep all ingredients as stated.
  • Add the water into a medium pot or saucepan and place over medium-high heat.
  • Add chopped onion, yellow scotch bonnet, crayfish, salt and stock cubes, bring to a boil and allow to simmer, covered for about 5 minutes.
  • Add fresh mackerel slices to liquid mix, cover and cook mackerel for about 5 minutes then carefully remove mackerel and set aside.
  • Add Okro to liquid mix and allow to simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring from time to time (you don’t want to overcook your Okro as a slight crunch is preferred. If you prefer your Okro much softer, cook a few more minutes longer).
  • Carefully stir in smoked mackerel chunks and cooked mackerel slices. Allow to heat up, about 3 minutes.
  • Take off the heat and serve with your preferred accompaniment or on its own.

How To Grow Followers On Instagram And Twitter

These days, being a social media influencer seems like a dream job and influencers are known for the wide range of benefits that come with their popularity. However, before you can enjoy the perks of being an influencer, you need to grow your number of followers first.

Here is how to grow followers on Instagram and Twitter.

1. How To Get Followers On Instagram

Instagram is a famously competitive social media platform and it seems like every minor and major niche is already occupied by powerful influencers. Still, here are 5 effective ways to dramatically increase your number of followers on Instagram.

  1. Keep your posts regular and consistent. No matter how many followers you’ve got, if you post irregularly or upload content that is widely different from the theme of your page or your brand, you are going to lose them instead of gaining them.
  2. Collaborate with other accounts in your niche. Cross-promotion is one of the most effective techniques to increase the number of followers. You can sponsor another blogger’s post, create a collaboration, or suggest advertising each other account’s for free if your target audiences overlap but are not the same.
  3. Cross-promote your Instagram page. If you are a business owner, a blogger, or a local internet celebrity, you are probably present on other social media websites like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, or even have your own website. Make sure your social media accounts are interlinked everywhere!
  4. Use hashtags. Hashtags are one of the most controversial aspects of Instagram, and while it’s true that you are unlikely to get any exposure with generic hashtags like #home or #love, you can easily make a difference in your number of followers by using popular hashtags that are directly linked to your niche.
  5. Keep your feed lighthearted. Unless you run a news account or something very serious where humour feels inappropriate, adding a dash of laughter to your feed will attract followers who accidentally discover your page. They will come for the memes, but they will stick around for the content that actually matters to you.

2. How To Get Followers On Twitter

Twitter is considered to be a niche social network, but its influencers still have a huge authority online. Even for the same brands and media personalities, the number of followers on Twitter will never compete with the number of followers on Instagram, but here are a few ways to effortlessly grow your Twitter following.

  1. Improve the top of your page. Your bio and user picture are the first things your potential followers notice about you. Plus, with a well-designed bio, you will have a better chance of attracting followers from Google search. Your bio needs to include your name/business name and give your users a complete idea of why you are on Twitter.
  2. Tweet consistently. Twitter messages are very short and you probably don’t need to keep the same strict schedule as with your other social media feeds. However, if you have been silent for a week and then re-emerge with a few dozen tweets at once, it’s going to scare away your existing followers instead of attracting new ones.
  3. Take part in #FollowFriday and other flashmobs. If you demonstrate your ability to appreciate other people’s content even if they may be your direct competitors, they will be more likely to recommend your account in the next #FF.
  4. Engage with brands and influencers. Having them reply back to you and include your username can mean great things for your follower count, but you also should never go overboard and make it your main activity on Twitter.
  5. Host live-tweeting sessions. If there is one thing Twitter users love about the platform, it’s the ability to live tweet various events in real-time. Choose an event that is relevant to your niche and post timely, eye-catching, and smart commentary using the right hashtags to attract new followers to your account.

Life Lager Beer Lightens Niger Bridge (Photos)

Following the launch of a new bottle and the ‘Nduka’ campaign, Life Lager Beer has continued to spread its strong message of hope and resilience to consumers, this time with decorative lighting on the popular Niger Bridge.

The groundbreaking lighting project which was unveiled on August 1, 2020, is a new initiative from Life Lager Beer as a climax to the brand’s relaunch activities.

As the novel Coronavirus spread across Nigeria, Life Lager Beer launched the ‘Nduka’ campaign as a means of encouraging its consumers to keep hope alive even as they stay safe at home.

Niger Bridge | www.wordpress-1516176-5827464.cloudwaysapps.com

The campaign theme which translates to “Life is Greater” saw Life Lager engage in a number of communication activities to pass its message of choosing life in these uncertain times creatively.

With its new lighting initiative, Life Lager is now spreading the importance of resilience, and self-preservation as the words “Enjoy Life Responsibly” appear boldly on its new lighting construction along with other brand signages.

The unveiling of the lights display which was done at an evening event, had in attendance the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Willie Obiano, who referred to the initiative as a progressive one and used the opportunity to encourage everyone to keep following the right precautions to stay safe.

Niger Bridge | www.wordpress-1516176-5827464.cloudwaysapps.com

Sales Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc., Uche Unigwe, also expressed delight at the launch of the new project stating that it is very significant work. He added that; “this project couldn’t have come at a better time and hopefully the message resonates with the brand’s consumers and inspires them to keep living right.”

The choice of the Niger Bridge for this project was once again a testament to the brand’s attachment to its southeastern roots, as it remains unapologetic about demonstrating its belief in the industrious nature of the people and their steady drive for progress.

Life Lager Beer was first produced in 1981 in Onitsha, Anambra State, as a regional Eastern beer and has since grown to become the biggest beer brand in Nigeria. Life Lager Beer is made from the choicest grains, hops and the purest waters, with the core brand belief that “Life is better when shared and when life is shared, there is progress”.
