The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said that the average cost of refilling a five kilogramme (kg) cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) dropped to N1,995.38 in June 2019 from N2,028.04 in May 2019.
The NBS made the disclosure in its “Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) Price Watch’’ for June released on Tuesday in Abuja.
The bureau said the price of refilling a five kg cylinder of cooking gas dropped by -1.61% month-on-month and -1.94% year-on-year in the period under review.
According to the bureau, states with the highest average price for the refilling of a five kg cylinder of cooking gas were Adamawa (N2,485.00), Bauchi (N2,450.00) and Borno (N2,407.14).
It named states with the lowest average price for the refilling of a five kg cylinder of cooking gas to include Ebonyi (N1,732.50), Enugu (N1,702.86) and Abuja (N1,700.00).
Similarly, the NBS said the average price for the refilling of a 12.5 kg cylinder of cooking gas increased in the month under review.
It said the price for refilling a 12 kg cylinder increased by 0.13% month-on-month and decreased by -1.24% year-on-year to N4,226.04 in June 2019 from N4,220.44 in May 2019.
According to the NBS, states with the highest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder of cooking gas are Bayelsa (N4,654.55), Akwa Ibom (N4,640.00) and Enugu (N4,563.85).
It named states with the lowest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder of cooking gas) as Katsina (N3,900.00), Ekiti (N3,870.41) and Kano (N3,775.00).
The NBS said that field work was done solely by more than 700 of its staff in all states of the federation, supported by supervisors who were monitored by internal and external observers.
It said that various prices were collected across the 774 Local Governments Areas across all states and the Federal Capital Territory from more than 10,000 respondents and locations.
The NBS said its audit team subsequently, conducted randomly selected verification of prices recorded.
