Polaris Bank has extended its nationwide tree-planting effort to include Abuja and Anambra, in collaboration with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF).
Following a similar event at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University in Anambra State a few days prior, the most recent exercise was held at Government Secondary School, Gwagwalada, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on October 14, 2024. Professor K.K. Nwozor commended the Bank for its conservation efforts.
The project is a component of Polaris Bank’s larger plan to coordinate its activities with the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021–2030), which emphasizes the critical need to restore land and build resilience against drought and desertification. The theme is relevant to World Environment Day in 2024 and highlights the bank’s proactive approach to encouraging sustainable practices that aim to improve biodiversity in Nigeria and restore degraded lands.
The directorate head for Abuja, Osazuwa Igbinoba, described the bank’s philosophy as: “Sustainability is embedded in our business strategy and actions at Polaris Bank.”
To guarantee a sustainable environment for future generations, he pointed out that the tree-planting initiatives concentrate on planting economic trees in addition to their goal of restoring natural ecosystems, BrandSpur banking and finance news reports.
This perspective was mirrored by Chiwetalu Nwatu, Directorate Head for the South East, who emphasized that sustainability is important to the Bank’s operations, which go beyond financial services. He pointed out that Polaris Bank’s strategy, which is based on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, combines responsible banking with societal empowerment and environmental responsibility.
It is impossible to exaggerate the importance of planting trees as a defense against climate change. As a result, the effort tackles important problems like soil erosion, better air quality, and climate management by absorbing carbon dioxide. The bank’s actions are not unique; they are part of a larger national campaign that has seen similar projects carried out at several community reserves and educational institutions around Nigeria.
Recently, on July 1st at Tai Solarin University, Ijebu Ode, in Ogun State; August 30th at Ajingi Community Reserve, Kunkurawa in Kano State; and October 3rd at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, was the Bank’s nationwide tree planting event. These incidents demonstrate Polaris Bank’s dedication to environmentally sound growth and rehabilitation.
This project calls attention to the value of environmental preservation while also improving the local ecosystems. By working together on projects like this, Polaris Bank hopes to encourage people, groups, and communities to take part in environmental restoration and help ensure a sustainable future for everybody.
These significant tree-planting events serve as a testament to Polaris Bank’s unwavering dedication to environmental stewardship, community well-being, and corporate responsibility in partnership with the NCF. The Bank hopes that by implementing this project, people, groups, and institutions will be motivated to promote a sustainable culture across Nigeria.
