Apple To Launch Its Cellular Modem Chips, iPhone SE In 2025

Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the situation, said that tech giant, Apple plans to launch its cellular modem chips, beginning with the iPhone SE next year.

The move is a part of the company’s three-year plan to surpass Qualcomm’s technology by 2027 and replace its components. The modem, which is reportedly a vital component of mobile phones for connectivity, will be included in the company’s entry-level iPhone SE smartphone.

For the first time since 2022, Apple is planning to update the iPhone SE. Through the hiring of engineers from other silicon businesses and the $1 billion purchase of Intel’s modem department, the company has made considerable investments in this pursuit. Along with the in-house modem, code-named Sinope, the iPhone SE is scheduled to launch in 2025 and will include significant new features including Apple Intelligence and an edge-to-edge screen.

BrandSpur digital news platform reports that Apple has carried out covert worldwide testing and quality control with carrier partners in advance. Unlike Qualcomm, which supports six or more carriers, the first modem will support four. The modem will be manufactured for Apple by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing.

By 2026, it is anticipated that Apple’s Ganymede second-generation modem will have increased carrier aggregation and mmWave functionality, matching Qualcomm’s current capabilities.

By 2027, it is anticipated that this processor will be found in high-end iPads and make its debut in the iPhone 18 series. Additionally, Apple plans to overtake Qualcomm by 2027 with its third modem, code-named Prometheus, which will include AI capabilities and enhanced performance.

Continuing, next-generation satellite networks are also anticipated to be supported. Additionally, Apple is thinking about combining its modem and CPU in the future.
