Ghana’s New President Scraps 7 Federal Ministries

To save costs as part of the International Monetary Fund’s austerity program, Ghanaian President John Mahama said in a statement available to BrandSpur digital news platform that he has eliminated seven federal ministries.

Continuing, in keeping with its promise of a more efficient and smaller administration, the new government would operate with 23 ministries rather than the original 30. In 2022, the nation was unable to make its debt payments and turned to the Washington-based lender for a $3 billion bailout. Amid voter ire over economic hardship, Mahama won a resounding victory in a ballot conducted on December 7 to become the head of the second-largest cocoa grower in the world.

Though his administration faces obstacles including severe debt, exorbitant living expenses, and unemployment, he has pledged to rebuild and stabilise the economy.
