Brazil Orders X To Immediately Block Grok Sexualised Deepfake Images

Brazilian authorities have directed social media platform X to take urgent action to stop its artificial intelligence chatbot, Grok, from generating sexually explicit and non-consensual images. The order follows mounting concerns over the spread of sexualised deepfakes involving women and children.

Regulatory bodies, including Brazil’s National Data Protection Agency and the National Consumer Rights Bureau, warned that the continued availability of such content violates national data protection and consumer laws. The agencies said X must immediately deploy effective safeguards to prevent the creation of explicit images of minors and adults without consent or face fines and possible legal action.

Brandspur Brand News reports that regulators have given the platform a five-day deadline to comply, after checks revealed that users could still generate sexualised content despite earlier assurances from X. Authorities also criticised the company for what they described as a lack of transparency in its response.

International scrutiny has intensified following similar actions in other countries, as governments push for stricter controls on AI-generated sexual content.
