Samsung Electronics has teamed up with Hyundai Motor Group and Kia to introduce a groundbreaking Car-to-Home service, enabling drivers to manage home appliances directly from their vehicles. The rollout completes a two-way connectivity system following the Home-to-Car feature launched in December 2025, which allowed users to operate vehicle functions remotely from home.
Through the Car-to-Home system, drivers of Hyundai and Kia vehicles can control SmartThings-connected devices, including air conditioners, lighting, air purifiers, and robot vacuum cleaners, via the vehicle’s touchscreen interface. Users access the service by linking their SmartThings account through a QR code embedded in vehicles equipped with the Navigation Cockpit platform introduced after November 2022. Wider availability will follow through future software updates.
Brandspur Banking News Desk reports that the service integrates SmartThings’ location-based “Smart Routines”, enabling automated actions based on vehicle proximity. For instance, when a car approaches home, “return home mode” activates air purifiers and lights, while during departure, “away mode” powers down appliances and activates robot vacuums. The service also allows pre-cooling or heating indoor spaces to enhance comfort before arrival.
Jung Jae-yeon, vice president and head of SmartThings at Samsung Electronics, highlighted that Car-to-Home provides a unified, seamless experience, connecting daily life across mobility and living spaces. The collaboration expands beyond convenience, incorporating healthcare monitoring via in-vehicle cameras linked to Samsung Galaxy wearables and pet care management through connected car environments.
The service is part of a broader agreement signed in September 2024 between Samsung and Hyundai Motor Group to enhance product connectivity, beginning with location-tracking features powered by SmartThings Find. Even without direct internet access, Galaxy smartphones can leverage other Galaxy devices to locate vehicles, boosting security and user convenience.
