Afreximbank Discusses Aircraft Financing Opportunities With Nigerian Aviation Leaders In Dublin

During a side discussion with the Afreximbank team during the ongoing Aviation Economic Conference in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, a major milestone in Nigeria’s aviation industry was reached.

Key players convened the discussion, which was led by Lereece Rose, Senior Director of Finance at Boeing, to talk about aircraft financing options for Nigerian airlines, BrandSpur Nigeria news today reports.

The Nigerian delegation was led by Festus Keyamo SAN, the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, who attended the meeting. Among other aviation stakeholders, the delegation featured notable figures like Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation; Hon. Abdullahi Idris Garba, the chairman of the House Committee on Aviation; Senator Abiru Adetokunbo, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions; Capt. Chris Najomo, the director general of the NCAA; Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, the managing director of Fidelity Bank; Toyin Olajide, the COO of Ai During the meeting, Afreximbank, under the direction of Helen Brume, its Director and Global Head of Project and Asset-Based Finance, agreed in principle to work with Nigeria on funding aircraft.

Continuing, the main goal of the 30-year-old development finance company Afreximbank is to advance trade throughout Africa. Brume underlined the necessity of strong aviation infrastructure to boost the competitiveness of African airlines, citing the bank’s 20 years of experience assisting carriers like Arik Air, Kenya Airways, and TAG. Afreximbank announced intentions to establish a leasing company to address this, and it will shortly receive 25 aircraft for lease to African airlines.

The goal of this program is to give Nigerian airlines access to dry-leased aircraft so they may improve domestic operations and serve Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) routes. The Honourable Minister’s efforts to improve Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem, especially in increasing the country’s Cape Town Convention score from 49.5% to 75.5%, were praised by Lereece Rose. This development demonstrates the nation’s dedication to fostering an atmosphere that makes it easier to finance and lease aeroplanes. The Honourable Minister emphasised the vital need for collaborations that would increase Nigerian operators’ access to aircraft funding, enabling expansion and better service provision.

Afreximbank responded by reaffirming its willingness to collaborate with the Nigerian government, indicating a bright future for the aviation sector in that nation. To ensure that this collaboration results in practical solutions for Nigerian airlines, a committee has been formed to monitor the conversations.
